why? recording engineers couldn't take the buzz wires ( the real thing) of the snare?

There could be multiple reasons:
- depending on snares, drum-set, cymbals and drummer's mentality ....
- in case using drum machines or samples and want to add some hiss
- when using the plugin on different instrument or for sound design
- if a producer decides to doubles "snare wires" or use parallel mixes
- for any other different reasons, caused by the invention, passion,
or imagination of everyone in the studio or stage, or in the project
- also in case you don't need it and isn't open, or loaded, but not used,
or even if you need just to watch the picture/skin of the front panel.
- and probably some many more reasons which I can't think of right now,
(like a secret project of NASA, trying to steal any studio intellectual properties)

As the Pythons would have said "....and now, for something completely different!".
At least they're coming up something really new and original and it's free so who can complain

It seems like a weird idea to make a plugin that emulates a sound we've spent countless days trying to get rid of but it can actually give a vibe to some instruments.
The Charlatans sometimes used to leave a snare drum in the same room as the Hammond organ to help create a live vibe.
