IMHO is a hard comparison between xp and 7. XP is generally better for latencies (and still now it is) when coupled with blazing fast cpus, this is also for the architecture of the motherboards, they were simpler and more similar to what can be a "real" hardware musical instrument. 7 was better for general usability (an xp refined) however to have the same low latencies you already had to start spending a bit more on audio interfaces than xp, with better drivers, even if you optimized the system (necessary on 7). From 10 problems begin...much higher costs for the same latencies, in practice obligation of the SSD for the OS (obligation...) even in the absence of libraries for its hundreds of active processes and more, continuous updates,etc. It seems to have to do a continuos fight to have PC in your hand against it. Of course there are tools,etc to optimize and tame it,etc. but this doesn't change the fact that it always try to do what he wants and not what you need! And again even higher costs and difficulties also with fast CPUs to have low latencies. 11...well already starting from the imposed constraints even for install it, I would say that the situation has not improved, more and more a system out of control where you have to find a way to improve the situation.

Then, you can always get the performance you want even on 11, there is always a way, it all depends on the difficulty of obtaining the result. The problem is that while the music programs improve from year to year, the operating system gets worse for them at the same time. To make music with a pc you would ideally need something different, much simpler and at the same time versatile and flexible. It can be done, unfortunately we are in the opposite direction now and you have to damn your soul to get performance back.It's full of active processes (most often useless...) that are increasingly difficult to eliminate because they are now an integral functional part of the system itself, these ruin performance even with very fast CPUs. So not leave an OS old or without improvements but for sure not in the direction we are...
