MIDI Sampling Is Finally Here

Introducing reMIDI 2, the follow up to reMIDI that allows you to take MIDI sampling to the next level with its new features. reMIDI 2 is a MIDI effect plugin that samples musical notes from MIDI files that allows you to quickly find, chop, key shift and time-stretch samples and map them to a controller.

reMIDI 2 is a plugin instrument capable of outputting MIDI as well as audio. A simple sine wave synth sound is built in for scratch work, so you can quickly find a loop for export as a MIDI file entirely within it.

For Audio Unit hosts (ie, Logic Pro), the included reMIDI_MFX MIDI effect plugin is loaded up instead. This is identical to the regular reMIDI, but it sits in front of the target instrument on the same track, outputting MIDI directly. It’s certainly the more elegant of the two approaches, although it only captures the raw triggering notes to the track, not the chords output by the plugin.

Each pad is assignable to have its own selected slice from the MIDI file loaded into the pad. You can combine different MIDI files (for melodic/drum MIDI) or record MIDI into pads from reMIDI MIDI input/output.
Now Included with reMIDI 2: SW Jazz Complete MIDI Pack

The complete set contains over 1000 files in 11 volumes. Each volume contains 100 Jazz block chord progressions in MIDI format.

These MIDI files can be dragged into any DAW, but why not just use SongWish’s reMIDI 2, a MIDI sampler VST. reMIDI 2 can load these MIDI files with some convenient features to play and edit them with.

You can animate these block chords with other MIDI utilities such as arpeggiators. Or get your jazz hands-on editing these progressions in your favourite DAW by modifying, adding/removing notes, or even changing the timing.

Wow. Some devs.
"You can animate these block chords..."

Not to be confused with actual diatonic block chords.
So, dev misuses terminology due to lack of music theory, makes plugin for others who don't have music theory.
And when he says "it now functions like a sampler", it doesn't. He means "sample player".
Still. No doubt a very useful plugin for a lot of people.

recycle, I am on topic though.
Admit it : they misuse the term "block chords".
Are you having a laugh here, or what ? Being OT and personal ? i.e. misbehaving.
I am discussing the product, and how the dev comes across to somebody with 40+ years of music theory and music tech. It's a red flag.
I want newbs and non musically educated customers to know how certain devs seem to be to the experienced.
Due to the technique and usage of block chords on a piano, they would be totally useless in this plugin anyway. Not just for a newb, but anybody. Not that they exist in this plugin though.
So the term is misleading and a lie, and if a newb had heard of "block chords" prior to this, they will be very disappointed with this plugin.
The technique of diatonic block chords and "lock hands" style is such that we play huge two handed chords that change with the leading melody note, so it would be pretty pointless to try and have them in such a plugin. We'd have to develop a whole new plugin just to deal with the technique I mention.
So, I thank the Universe it's been cracked ! haha. That's great !
That's what I say.
How dare they talk rubbish to their prospective clients ?

A DAW is the best "MIDI sampler" with way more ways of editing MIDI.
It's all getting a bit too "meta" when someone suggests introducing a "MIDI sampler" into a DAW, when the DAW can do it all just fine.
People could try learning their DAW, and realise they don't need this plugin.

If I was convinced Trading Standards had a division that understands music, I would report this and SongWish would be in trouble.
"SongWish" = What the dev perceives of the customers.
"CashWish" is their true subtitle.

On reflection, I just feel sad that I know that people will battle with such a plugin to get something that sounds like the correct inversions are happening, and which sound natural to a seasoned player and writer, whilst they could maybe even move faster without getting bogged down in this plugin.
Admittedly, it can sound cool when chords are used like a sample in HH and are slightly disjointed with the next chord. I.E. not what a keyboard player would, or sometimes even could play ! So, genre dependant.
I am not discounting though that for the right type of person with some knowledge, this plugin can be very useful.

Oh. My huge mistake. I HONESTLY thought Live ony used VST's !
First and last time I used Live, well over 15 years ago, I could've sworn that was the case.
Stuck in a Logic world for 20 years.
<facepalm> !
I honestly thought AU was just for Logic.
To "the man" : See ? I am a normal person who can make mistakes ! Be happy.

You mean macOS. OSX finished back in 2016.
And maybe you don't remember or know about this :
Music Radar:
"The program was capable of hosting VST plug-ins for effects, but the lack of MIDI sequencing meant that VST instruments were not supported. Even so, as a sample arrangement tool or DJing package, Live was highly capable.

With the release of version 4, though, Ableton Live really came of age. Released in the summer of 2004, Live 4 was the biggest overhaul of the program since its introduction.

Without doubt, the most exciting new feature was the introduction of MIDI sequencing. For the first time, Live users could work with virtual instruments (VST for Windows, VST and AU for Mac) and record and edit MIDI note information."

Note: The installer shits all over your OS drive, creating "VST2" folders in both "Program Files\Common Files\" And "Program Files\Common Files (x86)\".
It also installs all variants with no options.
