Psychic Modulation Phonec v2.3.1 WiN OSX screenshot
WiN OSX | AudioZ Exclusive | 11.42 MB
Phonec was inspired by the mystique of those video logos heard at the beginning of 80s films on VHS. Phonec aims to recreate the obscure character and ghostly qualities of these types of sounds. Aside from it's quirky nature, Phonec is a unique and powerful synthesizer, capable of producing a wide range of sounds such as vintage analogue tones, lo-fi synthscapes, ethereal ambiance, minimal techno sequences, retro leads and hard hitting synth basses. Phonec's intuitive GUI attempts to strike a balance between form and function. This makes it a very practical tool that can be a real inspiration to work with. Apart from this, Phonec2 has several interesting features that set it apart from the crowd.

Key Features:

Dual Oscillators with various combinations: Mix, Sync, Ring, X-wave, logic
Sub Oscillator for beefing up the low end
Analog-style oscillator drifting
2-stage lowpass filter with 8 modes + Acid Filter
Post Highpass Filter
Filter Saturation Driver
3-Stage Filter Separation
3-Band Parametric EQ
Melt: A unique feature that adds instant character to any patch
Arpeggiator that works in conjunction with a Modulation Sequencer
3 LFOs (2 monophonic, 1 polyphonic)
HFO (High Frequency Oscillator)
Various modulation types: AM, PM, FM, Filter FM
2 Modulation Envelopes
Aftertouch control of several parameters that can also be linked to the Modwheel
EchoShifter: A Pitchshifting, Dub Delay Unit
Chorus effect with Melt integration
External Audio Processing
Pan-Tracking
MIDI Learn and automation of most parameters
Patch Randomization of Sub-sections
Sub-presets: load/save settings for sections such as osc, filter, etc.
Double Click Parameter Reset
Intuitive patch management system
Default bank of 128 presets

Phonec v2.3 update:

Phonec receives a major update with v2.3, featuring a new Melt System, an Acid Filter, Resonance Saturation and Sub-Presets plus more.

I uninstalled the version posted earlier and installed this one. It still reads version 2.2 after two reinstalls. Not sure why it's doing that.

They install in different directories by default (which is a bit annoying). Check your folders.

Hi Baxter,

That's right, all over the place. After uninstalling, I had to delete three DLLs in different directories. Weird, but fixed.

Thanks a lot.

Not showing up in Ableton Live 10 as an audio unit. Shows as a VST that has AU in its name. Shows up as an Audio Unit in Logic Pro X. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Edit: Found the answer.
Our plugins use an AU wrapper that Ableton seems to have trouble recognizing. I've contacted them and we've determined that there's not much we can do about it at this point. The VST versions work fine in Ableton, and the AU works in all other hosts, so we've concluded that this is more an Ableton related issue.

Does not show up in Logic 10.4.6. Any help?

Q: Audio Units are not showing up in Logic after installation.

A: This might be because you need to clear your AU cache to refresh Logic's plugin list. This is known to happen sometimes with Audio Units plugins. Here's how to do it:

Quit Logic
In Finder, click on the Go menu, hold down the [Alt/Option] key and click on Library.
Go to Caches > AudioUnitsCache and Delete com.apple.audiounits.cache then empty your trash bin.
Restart your computer.
Now restart Logic and it will do a fresh scan of your installed plugins. The plugins should then appear in the Audio Units list.

Thanks for this, but still not showing up. I installed it on an external HDD like most of my plug-ins. May this be the problem?

Fails authorization in VEP-7 and doesn't show up in Garageband on Mojave. Won't risk installing this on my Logic machine...

Edit: Rebooted and now working in VEP-7. Apologies.. Thanks to all for this!

Doesn't show upin Vsthost nor in Komplete Kontrol....
I forced the installation on the Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugin dir, but other than that, no difference from the "mainstream" installation procedure... what am I missing ? ( tried a reboot also, didn't help )

Great synth for those 80s vibes. I wish we could get those other Psychic Modulation plugins, like the VectoMelt or, at least, the EchoMelt. That seems like a dope FX! Thx Audioz, ByzantineMage and PiRAT!

Check the request section. EchoMelt as already been requested I think so just go and support that request if you want. I don't think VectorMelt has, so you can always request it yourself.

I'm a bit confused about the preset management. Is there a way to easily save all presets you've created (that appear as files in the preset folder) as one bank? I've read the manual but can't figure out how to do this. I saved a lot of individual presets, but find I have no way to easily audition them except by clicking on "menu" and pressing "load preset" one at a time. In contrast, banks let you flip through presets easily. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I haven't played with it yet, but the preset management is not great at first sight. Here is something you can try.

Start by saving a bank. Press Menu, choose Save Bank: you then have a choice of Saving As, so you can create your own bank in the right place this way. Then load your presets individually and save them to that new bank.

Thanks! Its slow but it worked. You load a preset in, hit save bank, advance to the next slot and then repeat.
