Traditional pan knobs are outdated. Simply put, Pan Knob is a better sounding way to pan, to make your mixes translate well on all playback systems.

Why do I need a plugin for a tool that every daw has?

Yes, this plugin is a pan knob in plugin format. But the truth is, the way traditional pan knobs work kind of sucks for headphone listeners, and according to polls, about 87% of people listen to their music on headphones. Have you ever listened to a mix that had one instrument panned hard to one side? It sounds ok on monitors, but sounds awful on headphones. That’s because traditional panning don’t take headphone listeners into consideration.

Have you ever heard a mix where you have two distinct guitar tones panned to opposite sides, but one dominates the low end and makes the entire mix feel lopsided? That’s because traditional panning treats all frequencies equally, even though our ears don’t.

Pan Knob overcomes this by having a smarter panning algorithm. One that keeps your low frequencies unpanned so that it sounds natural in headphones. It doesn’t do any room simulation, so it isn’t going to mess up your mono mixdown.
Convenient options

Aside from just sounding better, it has a few options to make it more convenient to use. It has a quick “Pan Swap” that will give you the opposite panning position with the click of a button. It has quick one button settings for the most used pan positions. You can choose which pan law is used, and choose between Balance and Pan for your stereo tracks.
Beyond 100%

Sometimes you need to pan a little wider than 100% to either side. Pan Knob lets you go to 120%, to give extra width when you need it.
More Panning Opportunities

When panning with Pan Knob, a whole new world of panning is opened up to you as a mixer. Because it sounds natural wherever you pan your tracks, you aren’t limited by the traditional panning rules that have become standard. You can pan any tracks wherever you want while keeping it sounding good and natural.

Sounds silly, but it's hard to debate with the video. I'll definitely give it a shot :)

Right? I've always been disappointed with panning, silly as that might sound. It never sounds as natural as my favorite records.
He has the crossover point in the plugin at like 500hz...does this mean everything below is mono'ed? Am I missing something?

X-Over
When the X-Over is disabled, the pan knob acts as a normal (dumb) pan knob. When you engage the X-Over, it gives a very gradual crossover to the panned sound, so that only the high frequencies are fully panned, leaving the low frequencies centered. This causes the pan to sound way more natural in headphones, but will make very little difference in the way the pan sounds in loudspeakers. To engage the X-Over control, you can either click the power button or just drag the knob

Thanks for the response! I did some homework on it myself. I might be scared of even trying it because someone at the official Boz youtube account said the track has to be stereo?...which is kind of a glitch in some daws? Kind of a deal breaker for me because UA plugins take double the DSP in stereo mode :|

had to check the posting date of the video to make sure it wasn't april 1. but after listening to the video with headphones, i have to admit it does sound more natural.

You get the same results with only one plug- in in the master- a frequency dependant mono-maker. My favorite is Plug-in Alliance bx control.

Only thing missing from this is a LFO which could sync to DAW tempo.

Very nice plugin. I spent 15 minutes or so playing around with it, comparing it to my go-to panner, A1StereoControl by A1AUDIO (which is free), and this was just as capable.

I'm happy they also included a dual pan mode, also called stereo panning. Very important. Watch this:
Balance Panning vs Stereo Panning

*Update* - that X Over control is a godsend. For example, try hardpanning to 120% and turning the X Over all the way up. Toggle the pan mode, although I tend to keep it on 'pan', that is, stereo pan.

Boz always puts out very good quality products.
I love their Imperial Delay, L8R, ProVocative, and of course this.
Definitely gonna buy a few soon.

As many of you already know, a good panning is one of the first secrets to getting a good mixer. Suggested videos like those of Majestic,
quote by MajesticVery important. Watch this:
Balance Panning vs Stereo Panning

are of immense usefulness to get a good idea of what happens in a mix when using different panning techniques. Not long ago, I have obtained some really interesting effects with two Eq-plugins, very different from each other, they have some possibilities for panning, which are really special. the DirectionalEQ of DDMF, the name itself says, makes the simple panning of its frequency bands on the stereo front, while the TDR SlickEQ M can do more, such as the widening / monoizing of its frequency bands separately, in addition to panning of the same bands. They needs a lot of attention as you can end up doing disaster on the phase, even if TDR offers mono compatibility for widening. With this amazing plugin by Boz, instead, make disasters is almost impossible, it's simple, effective, but at the same time special even for its 120% wide.
Another nice hit by Boz who definitely deserves support.
As always, thank to R2R and Horsemen for giving us the opportunity to evaluate these stuffs.

Anybody having some .au plugins not showing up?
Like this one...
It is in the components list, but apparently doesn't get scanned...
I've had this happen a couple of times since upgrading to Logic 10.4.2.
Anybody?

It's just you, chief. Make sure your antivirus isn't interfering with your keygen or license.

Also, consider this; it's very important:
quote by MajesticBy the way, a weird idiosyncrasy of these Boz Digital Labs plugins, is that you have to click on 'Register' twice in order to activate it. The first time it will confirm that your serial is valid, and the second time is when the actual activation happens.

And of course, make sure you use the same username for every Boz plugin, or they will deactivate, and you'll have to reactivate them.
