Welcome to Airwindopedia! This is a complilation of the plugin-related bits from all my plugin posts. As such, this is as close to a full documentation of the Airwindows plugins as you'll find. In some cases I'll have added explanation, or I might be able to expand on things as this develops. Bear with me as I must do this while also doing everything else, and it will always be on me: as an open source dev, my experience is that people don't really step up to do the tedious stuff across entire libraries, so Airwindopedia is there because I went through all the posts to consolidate them in one place for you :)

We will start with some basic categorization: you can look these up below for further instruction. We'll use the categorization that was used in Surge Synthesizer when organizing my plugins for their purposes, but I will continue and mention plugins not used in Surge Synthesizer if I feel they fit the category. They won't be in alphabetical order, but in order of how well they fit the category and how good they are, and there will be plugins showing up in multiple categories and ones that don't appear at all.

Actually it turns out that other devs can use this file to do amazing things like populate menus and fill in entries for help files, so what you see below will end up including ALL the plugins eventually. Again, they're roughly in order of goodness, so try the ones at the beginning of the list first: those are also likely to be the most recent ones :)

I'm fairly certain they're all fine financially. You know people are grabbing up those $5 and $10 plugins because of the plastic GUIs that look like oughts-era video game UIs too. If those companies had control-only scripting like Airwindows that utilized their hosts default UIs you know nobody would be touching them.
Some of these companies are on V2/3 of their plugins and nothing has changed except maybe the poor implementation of a feature or two that should have been present from V1.

Don’t know what you’re on about, but Console8 plugins sound amazing for summing and giving depth to a mix. Look how people are going crazy for Sonimus’ stuff just released here today.

I like what Console8 does, though like most any plugin, its usefulness depends on the source material, but Fuse Audio Labs' VPRE/2C/31-A/376 ends up at the top of my channels most every time, that or True Iron. On the flip-side? I don't know what you're going on about— are you saying that Chris could move units because of the hysteria over a Sonimus release on a pyrate site, a site where people's M.O. is *not paying for stuff? Sounds screwy when you present it from that angle, doesn't it?

I don't know, man. There're just too many plugins with each doing very specific thing. I'd rather have all-in-one channel strip or something like that, which will simplify and speed up the workflow, as opposed to reaching out for multiple individual plugins.

Yeah, not for you then, as there *definitely isn't anything in this bundle trying to bring an all-in-one workflow... the closest being, possibly, Monitoring, and that's just kind of a one-stop filtering check, sort of like Mixchecker (though I just use it for the cross-talk.) Airwindows is aimed more at people who need a specific tool, or something different, or unique, or just want to experiment with odd filtering or modulation. A testament to the singular aspect of his plugins is that some people are now using Chris' individual plugins' scripting in their larger plugin projects, i.e., an Airwindows Hi/Low-pass in a channel strip that's otherwise original scripting.

That's interesting Can you tell me which plug-in used his script?
I love some plug-ins in Airwindow and I know they're open source so I was looking forward to such a collaboration.

I can't remember. It seems there was one that I grabbed that used some Airwindows script, while I passed on another... or others? I don't remember; I'm often doing eight things at once, so things get sorted out my skull and left along the wayside according to importance. And keep in mind, just because someone uses a script of his in a plugin doesn't mean it's gonna be anything special.
Also, to my knowledge, there's no collabs, just Chris allowing people to use his scripts; honestly, I'm not even sure if he's asked people to cite their usage or not.

Okay, I did a quick run-thru my recent slush and this is the only plugin that I'm certain uses an Airwindows script for I-don't-remember-what:

Aarrow

Thanks ! The demo looks fun, so I'm going to give this a try.
That's right. I knew it wasn't a collaboration. but I live in a non-English-speaking culture and it was hard to find the right word because it was too late to sleep.
I'm sorry to bother you.

And yes, using scripts from Airwindow doesn't make plug-ins special.
But if you put the texturizer in the analog emulation plug-in instead of boring noise, it's fantastic.
And it would be great to integrate DeRez and IronOxide's algorithms into plugins like Dist Coldfire.
I hope the combination that I imagined comes out

"idiot savant"
"autistic guy"
There's no way to interpret this other than derogatory insults aimed at a person that you regard as inferior due to possible neuro-divergence, regardless of whether he actually is or not. If he was actually diagnosed autistic would you be using his diagnosis as a tool to demean him and therefore his work? If you cannot see how deeply offensive such comments are then I suggest you ponder on that thought for a while and imagine how you think he would feel if he were sat in front of you. You may not like his plugins, fair enough, but the way to state that doesn't involve personal insults, it's via technical argument.

I agree with you Haze. Also, none of these are technical arguments to judge such plugins.

The point here is that Chris shares an interesting part of the tools that made his work what it IS, and he shares it because it makes sense to him. Obviously, to discover that meaning you have to put the vsts in their corresponding folder and START WORKING with them, which will surely provide a better understanding of what Chris was able to experience. I mean, it's not something instantaneous, it does not solve the anxiety of the compulsive Western consumer, it's a toolbox for WORKERS, many will find great satisfaction through some of those tools, others will not understand them, or will not see them necessary, etc. The propensity to judge has nothing to do with work, much less with art. One of the most interesting aspects of freedom of expression is that it allows workers and artists to take certain precautions against totalitarian and alienating discourses that threaten production by sharing.

OK, let's not go the politico social path.
These are tools, effects, they can be analyzed in a technical way.

Personally I dont use them because I cant hear a difference, but it's true that I didn't tried much as I have no time for it. I need the technical aspect to be clear, as I want to spend my time on the creative side. If a plugin is not clear for me, I dont mind other's opinion. I dont use it, there are thousasnds of tools for music creation anyways.
But I dont need to speak about the psychology of the dev to justify myself, nor to go into politic social thing...

It's just that I found other tools for my art that fit better my needs.

U're right, my mistake is giving importance to contempt, won't happen again.

No worries. Sorry I couldn't remember any others.
And yeah, I could see both DeRez and IronOxide being used in other plugins. I'm actually surprised more people haven't stacked some of the more bizarre plugins for unique effects, ones that might be more tailored towards wild EDM modulations or something, stacking stuff up and playing off of one another, like people do in Kilohearts' ecosystems. My uses for Airwindows are pretty tame, more specialty use, tools that are nice to have around when necessary. As I mentioned above though, Monitoring is the one that I always have loaded on my Master, for speaker cross-talk, as I mix on headphones quite a bit. It's easily the most realistic of the ones that I've tried, and I'm pretty sure I've tried them all.

After breezing through most of the comments seeking useful information regarding the plugs - which is scarce although certainly a lot of words being flung around, I am wondering if perhaps on the sister site a topic dedicated to these plugs and understanding their functions may be useful?

I am not familiar with this guys work, there are a lot of plugs and since they are open source the technical aspects may actually be quite useful for those that want to use tthem in their own codes

quote by eXACTI highly recommend checking out the videos on Chris' page for deeper dives into the plugins you're interested in.

Chris lays out all the information you'll need (which is probably more information than anyone actually *needs,) in a couple paragraphs of text per-plugin on the homepage plus, each plugin has a video where he dives into the technical aspects, why he created it, possible uses, etc.
