The sound of a true legend
Meet the RX1200, our 12-bit sampler instrument based on the E-mu SP-1200, a landmark sampler designed by Dave Rossum and released by E-mu Systems in 1987.

With its gritty digital sound for sequencing fat beats, the ability to build musical phrases with 32 sample slots, and its warm filters for efficiently capturing bass lines from vinyl, the SP-1200 is a monument to beatmaking that gave music producers huge new possibilities.

We are honored to show you our take on a groundbreaking machine that no less helped the emergence of new styles of modern music, bringing the classic approach to beatmaking into your DAW.

The RX1200 is a beatmaker's sandbox tool. It's a one-of-a-kind sampler ready to inspire your productions with experimentation, happy accidents, and that lovely distinctive lofi sound.

VST, AU, AAX plug-in (Win, Mac, Linux)

Nailing that sound
At the heart of the RX1200 is our commitment to faithfully reproducing the signature sound of the SP-1200. Besides the obvious 12-bit resolution, the 26.041 kHz sample rate, and the SSM2044 low-pass filter emulation, the RX1200 perfectly matches the aliased down-pitch tuning that delivers the SP-1200. With its distinctive grit, crunch, and warmth, the RX1200 puts the inimitable 12-bit sound into your music.

A streamlined interface
Rather than making a 1:1 copy of the SP-1200, we’ve designed the RX1200 as a more straightforward instrument with an easy learning curve.

By removing the onboard sequencer, we’ve built our vision of an audio plug-in that integrates flawlessly with any DAW and puts sample performance at the forefront of your creative process.

A flexible sample editor
It would be a shame not to take advantage of your computer mouse. The sample editor makes it easy to browse, truncate, normalize, reverse, loop and assign your sounds across the 4 banks of 8 pads. It's an efficient and intuitive way to craft your own presets for building your grooves.

Ready to play
Packed with a Factory Collection of 900+ samples built into 50 presets, the RX1200 is ready to perform out of the box.

The Factory Collection contains 122 kicks, 139 snares, 169 hi-hats, 47 toms, 32 cymbals, 120 percs, 50 FX, 32 bass, 41 keys, 151 slices, and 33 others.

In the next few months, a series of new free collections, sorted by theme, will be added regularly to expand your RX1200 experience.

The unique 1200 lofi sound
To save sampling memory, SP-1200 owners often sampled 33 RPM records at 45 RPM, and then tuned down the sample on the SP-1200 to restore the original speed. This technique doubled the sampling time but lowered the sound quality. Surprisingly, this altered sound became popular among hip hop producers and many best-selling records of the 90s used the SP-1200.

Previously, people dreamed of getting away from all these noises and distortions in order to achieve a clear sound, but now the roosters are crowing that one emulation is better than another...

Works fine here too Win 11 Cubase.

Just want to give tips to Cubase user, for the multi-out, need to enable All Output then turn down the "Mix Volume" to prevent doubling. Enabling 1 or 2 won't work.
It makes no sense to say you’re not good at it. It’s like saying, “I’m not good at being a monk.” You are either living as a monk or you’re not.

It is human nature to want to assign superiority to hardware and plug-ins, but you should not take that opinion for granted. Have you considered how reliable the verification done by the writer of that review? Can you guarantee how meticulously it has been verified, including the way the source is input into the hardware? Is the input level control perfect? How do you supply power to the hardware? What is the impact of the cables? And on what basis is the superiority of the hardware and plug-ins based?

You can judge which is better by your own ears and working environment. Even at the time, the evaluation of the real SP-1200 was dismal in terms of simple audio quality. The legend of the SP-1200 exists today because of the many excellent musical works and the reputation that has been fostered over time. There is no need to get tied up in engineering topics and rush to a final evaluation without trying anything.

this thread is way more fun to read when you imagine Kool Kieth sitting somewhere stoned in his studio super pissed about the state of sp emulation. Dan the Automator is getting 4am texts somewhere "these fools don't know!"

Sadly doesn't pass Logic validation tool on Mac OSX 10.10,
probably minimum system requirements are for later versions.
The other plugins from the same developer are OK.

Thanks for the release, awesome stuff :)

Is anybody experiencing UI lag with this plugin? I've been having this problem more and more lately, usually with releases that are non-R2R. The plugins load fine, they work, there's no CPU spikes but my entire DAW starts lagging so badly it becomes unusable. Turn off or remove the plugin, everything works fine again. It's really strange.

It might just be the fact that I'm on Windows 7 and Studio One 4.1.4, so I'm wondering if people are experiencing the same issues. If so it might be time to finally upgrade my system.

Cheers.

Not so much of a lag, but more of some inconsistent triggering within my DAW. With everything quantized, I'm hearing skips in my samples. I'm sampling Impeach The President to test this out and I'm breaking it up into four parts. Using the first two chops over a one-bar loop, I'm experiencing skips even when it didn't skip before. It's frustrating.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me in Debian 11 due to GLIBC being v2.31. RX1200 needs at least v2.32. This is similar to needing latest Windows' VC++, but in Linux you have to upgrade the whole distribution to get it.

The dev is one of those more fresh Linux users who doesn't make plugins for stable versions of Linux distributions but unstable versions, which is not what you do if you want alll users to be able to run it. The Windows or Mac equivalent would be making plugin run only on Windows 11 or latest Mac OS only. As always, there are no life-frightening reasons to run "the latest and greatest" C library, as there are no reasons to jeopardise your perfectly stable working OS which runs other hundreds of programs and plugins perfectly. That Microsoft mindset of upgrading systems just for the sake of upgrading have ruined us all. We should chill more.

How do you check why a plugin doesn't work in Linux? open terminal in the plugin folder and write "ldd RX1200.so". Ldd command checks all the dependencies of the .so file. This is very useful to know so I felt like posting it.

It will have to wait on my disk until the new stable Debian version sometime this year. In the meantime I'll try it on "superlite" Windows 10 that I have on my "auxiliary" laptop.

and life goes on. Chill. TAL-Drum is my go-to drum sampler anyway.

Thanks for the heads up SineWave! Does it work under Wine?

It says "win 8 and higher" so It should work in WINE, but I don't use it and I can't be 100% sure. This is a primarily Windows dev and it doesn't seem like a very complex plugin, so that's why I presume it should work. Installation is the way I prefer it - just copy the files over, see if it works, if it doesn't delete the files and forget. I love that.

Have you tried the web app? You can load your samples into it and record the output.
