I remember long time ago, before the sampling era, I heard on the radio a contemporary / experimental composer (can't remember his name, but close to Pierre Henry) who had composed an entire musical piece with door creakings.

Made only with several tape recorders, he have managed to slow down the noise so that it sounded like a regular rhythm. Imagine a big BD sound in a rapid sequence playing the role of the bass, then you superpose medium and higher tuned door creakings that play the role of chords and melody... It was interesting.

I hope they have preserved the creakings in this sound bank!

EDIT: Listen the 4 files starting with "DS_Door_Slam_22*.wav" and "DS_Door_Slam_42*.wav" you will see what I mean.

Yes, perhaps Varese or Schaeffer, or one of their numerous students...

...Or perhaps an IRCAM member? I can't remember, it was too long ago, around the end of the seventies, before the digital age, before the Ensoniq Mirage, before the Akai S612...

The only thing I'm sure is that it was during an interview on a national radio about Concrete Music.
