I recently had the pleasure of borrowing a Yamaha CS-20M from a friend. During my time with this instrument, I carefully sampled this remarkable synthesizer from 1979 to create a collection of 20 presets, now available for free in DecentSampler format.



From lush pads to punchy basses, each preset captures the warmth and character of this classic analog synthesizer, bringing its distinctive tones directly into your DAW. The CS-20M’s unique sonic palette – renowned for its fat oscillators and rich filter characteristics that helped define the sound of the late 1970s – is perfect for synthwave, ambient, and electronic music production.

As a special bonus, the 21st preset is actually a full-featured virtual analog synthesizer, built from the raw waveforms of the CS-20M. It comes complete with amplitude and filter envelopes, pitch and filter LFOs, and effects processing – giving you the flexibility to create your own sounds while maintaining the authentic character of the original hardware.
