OwnHammer Rock-Box DVNT77-16A Impulse Responses IRs/WAV screenshot
AudioZ Exclusive| 10 September 2023 | IRs/WAV | 6.39MB
Cabinets:
The OwnHammer Rock-Box cabinets are proprietary enclosures, designed and built in-house singularly for impulse response capture and towards multiple sound design goals: to maximize fidelity and musicality for use in a broad range of styles and applications, to provide a tone that is both something familiar and something new, and to exude a neutrality that allows the individuality of different speakers, guitars, pickups, amps, and playing nuances to shine through unencumbered. Various unique construction choices were implemented to accomplish this complex requirement set to outstanding result, providing a tone with clean low end, magical midrange, smooth high end, and incredible note clarity across the entire spectrum.

Speaker:
Based on and seeking to recreate the sound of:
• Make: Eminence
• Model: DV-77
• Diameter: 12 inches
• Year: 2021
• Impedance: 16 ohm
• Fs: 70 Hz

The sound of this speaker specimen coupled with the OwnHammer Rock-Box cabinets could best be described as having a mechanical midrange grind that gorilla-gut-punches its way through the middle of a mix, not being lost in or interfering with the drum cymbals, while still presenting with an upper midrange snarl and grit that is entirely unique to itself.

Feature Set:
35 unique multi-mic mixes, all captured through major production/mastering grade signal chain:
• Classic Cab - 5 mic mixes, 5 positions each (25 IR's)
• Blend Cab - 1 mic mix, 5 positions (5 IR's)
• Modern Cab - 1 mic mix, 5 mic positions (5 IR's)

No post processing has been applied to any component of this library, allowing the inherent gear to present in its natural state; warts, quirks, charms, and all.

File Format:
Wave Audio (.wav)

Wave audio format IR's (.wav) are compatible with convolution reverb type loaders in recording software and outboard hardware units. The files in this library are:
• 24 bit resolution
• 44.1, 48, 88.2, and 96 kHz sample rates
• Minimum phase transformed
• 208 millisecond Mono

Glad you find the notes useful because I always wonder if it's even worth writing them
Yes I do agree they're going for a more streamlined approach, which might have been motivated by the success of York Audio. However I do still like the more granular approach of the older releases and most of my favourites are actually from the V4 era.

May be OH is going in the "RAW and simple" sound direction.
Instead of "too much choice and perfection" they usually go.

Thanks !

DV77 is the new V30

Definitely seems to be their new direction with the Essentials line and now more so with the Rock-Box line! Personally I do think there might be more value in the Essentials cabs, especially if you can't grab these before they go off sale.

York Audio VHT pack, 412 cab with stock Eminence speaker is better sounding than this one IMO, prefer that more. That one is phat af and can handle the down tuned really well. Check it out. Tips: Mix 01 is the best mix IR.

Hoping to see the Creamback from the Rock Box series. The free Heritage greenback isn't bad at all.

The VHT one sounds great in the demos but for some reason I've never been able to make it work well for what I'm looking. It seems to have this very specific tonality that only works with certain amps. But York also have a custom 2x12 cab with DV77s and I find it much more usable!

Also OwnHammer did release a Creamback M library in the Rock-Box series!
Rock-Box M65CB-2013A.
Unless you were talking about the 75W H version then yes I'd love to see that in a cab in X-pattern with V30s.

I've been using the ML Sound Lab ZIlla pack that has Creambacks in it with this video as reference for tuning. Looking to add/find more Creamback packs to experiment with. The ML Sound Lab version is dirty and the 121 capture isn't as I expected it to be.
