Impulse Responses (IRs) WAV | AudioZ Exclusive | 214.97 MB
High quality made impulse responses (IR) from the classic (original 80’s) AMS RMX 16 from Nevo Studios.

AMS was established in 1976 by the Aerospace engineers Mark Crabtree and Stuart Nevison. 1981, they released the RMX-16 digital reverberator which defined the sound of the 1980s and been heard in pop and rock music ever since. By the mid 1980s, nearly every major studio had an RMX 16. It practically defined the drum sound of the era with the huge drums of Phil Collins “In the Air Tonight”. The gated reverb preset NonLin 2 has been heard on hundreds, if not thousands recordings from the 1980s onward. The Sound of the RMX 16 is unique and much sought after. Also heard on classics from: Dire straits, Whitney Houston, George Michael, Peter Gabriel, Van Halen, Prince, U2, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Radiohead, Kate bush and many moore.

Thanks for this. I wonder how these stack up against the Inhalt AMS IRs?

it's the first thing I do when testing out this pack.

1. Sound quality pretty good for both pack and both usable.

2. The IR captures :
- Nevo - I assume it's flat EQ (or Filter on the hardware) settings for every one of them, each algo gets enough capture to be usable and 1 sec between them seems appropriate for stretching without them breaking.
- Inhalt - offers various of EQ settings for all the known good reverb time settings. While you can easily EQ the flats Nevo IR in DAW, it's always better to get the most authentic one from the hardware unit itself so the amount of modification needed is minimal to preserve the IRs.

3. Sound character wise, Nevo's capture is a little denser with more low mid content and have a lot of weight to it, compared to Inhalt that seems thin on its own. While the denser one will always sounds good on its own and add character to thin sounding track, it can lead to muddiness problem later most of the time, so you'd carve out and make them thinner anyway to accommodate what the track needs.

4. Details, I think the Inhalt captures excel at it, where you can clearly hear more early reflection and the small delays nodes spreading with a little less obvious diffusion. It's tighter and really amazing at doing the short reverb time. Ambience and Non-Lin2 algo particularly sounds so good. Nevo's version, the reverb diffusion is quite obvious with less ER you lose all the details but they sound big and lush, better for long reverb time, the one with short time isn't as good as the Inhalt's, it's a little too dense and can be harsh sounding sometimes especially the Non Lin. I also compared them to my fav TC Non-Lin2 plugin and prefer the TC that sounds a league above these two, more realistic with perfect gated decay, but I'm aware it's not fair since it's an algo reverb from another world-class reverb unit.

EDIT : Korneff Audio Micro Digital Reverberator also has AMS RMX16 emulation, it's on Machine 2. High CPU usage though.
It makes no sense to say you’re not good at it. It’s like saying, “I’m not good at being a monk.” You are either living as a monk or you’re not.

thank you so much for that insight Stevie. I actually used to be a TC Powercore owner before they canned it, and I loved all the plugins in there. I went and looked for the native TC Non-Lin2 plugin but it doesn't seem to be for sale anywhere. Did they abandon that too?

If you take a look their promo video for it is 2 years old:

I think they discontinued it. Those reseller links say it's not for sale anymore.

sorry for that, didn't know because I didn't even attempt to click those link. Weird for discontinuing a product like that. Hmm. Then one should just use the K'd version here.
