Altiverb 7.28 (required) IR: Inchindown gigantic underground storage tank.

Audio Ease Altiverb 7.28 IR: World's longest reverb - Underground diesel storage tank screenshot
famouslut | August, 4 | .irbulk | 55.3 MB

Claimed to be the world's longest reverb, this IR was captured in Inchindown, Scotland, UK.

In search of the longest reverb in the world we landed on the edge of Kinrive Forest in Scotland, where hidden in the side of Kinrive Hill, are two bolted doorways.
The doorways lead to the bombproof fuel tanks of Inchindown, one of three secret fuel stores constructed near the main naval anchorages in Britain, in this case Invergordon naval base. The British government needed to keep stores of fuel, in case the German Navy managed to block the ports or destroy shipping convoys and stop fuel supplies reaching Britain from overseas.

As part of an 2020 Apple TV+ documentary film production about reverb, Audio Ease recorded the 9 meter wide, 237 meter long and 13.5 meter high tank, which indeed holds by far the longest reverb Audio Ease has ever come across.

The tank is constructed from concrete which sits against the hard rock of Kinrive Hill. The only access for humans is through an 18 inch pipe. We recorded inside using 6 microphone stands with DPA 4006's and the largest Genelec that would fit through the hole in the entrance pipes, the 1032 monitor.

It appears in the (difficult to locate) "POST / outdoor" section of Altiverb, and is called "oil tank" (?) Just in case anyone needs to locate it. It does look like a bit like Batman's wardrobe if anyone can't find it. Although searching for Batman's closet should technically make it more difficult to find!

even the guys at Audio Ease stated that this reverb is useless in real world applications... they did it because they could and they've sampled most other rooms already:-)

Maybe as it is, but with some edition, it may be very interesting to use.

it is amazing to use for any drone or ambient music. also ive used b4 in scifi or horror game sound designs. years ago i downloaded some free impulse wavs a guy recorded in there (w a starter pistol). i still use them to this day although they take gobs of cpu due to their being a minute in length. super excited to hear what this super high end altiverb version of inchindown sounds like!!
make music, not walls.

It's a very strange reverb; not something you'd put on most drum busses, necessarily. You can hear when the guy ^ plays a flute (tube, open at both ends) with even overtones, inside a flute-shaped object (with closed ends) causing all kinds of eerie, witch feels. I felt like a cat being stroked the wrong way. Well, I produced similar meow sounds anyway! Kinda fun.
Thx to anybody posting Spitfire / OTB libs!

Even if there is no current version of Altiverb XL, then at least once or twice a year a new IR file. Many thanks for that.
