You're right and that's why a lot of people are morbidly obese, don't get proper nutrition and lack any real appreciation for the finer things. Since I like truth even when it's uncomfortable I can admit that my views can be construed as somewhat snobbish but whereas some people might be snobbish in musicality I am more open-minded in that I look for anything of value and I just don't find it in much mainstream music today. I guess I was just raised on a different scene with a different kind of appreciation. I expect a lot out of my music and it's not that Skrillex isn't deep because I also like to listen to tracks just to unwind but I'm hard-pressed to find anything of value in it. KMFDM had a good verse in their genius track Dogma that goes:
We fear that pop culture
Is the only kind of culture we're ever gonna have
We want to stop reading magazines
Stop watching TV
Stop caring about Hollywood
But we're addicted to the things we hate

I guess I fear that myself because it has become a serious problem in the contemporary world. Whereas pop music used to have at least some worth lately it has just become one big freak show and I was never a big fan to begin with. Once the masses get hold of something they suck all the value out of it in no time. You really hit the nail on the head with your last paragraph and I guess my whole being is a revolution against that kind of system even down to the music.

"greed is stupid" very nicely put
About the quoted comment, and as metal/rock/indus lover too, i can tell you america killing music already started before electronic music.

Rock is born in the UK. After that, UK Rolling Stones gone to USA...and we know what happened.
Iron Maiden heavy metal ? UK
And more examples to come.

In fact, it is not america. It is capitalism. And we all know where is it's best representation...

My fav Skinny Puppy track :

You're absolutely right, it's not America it's capitalism because America was the birthplace of House and that spawned a lot of music today so it's not their taste in itself. By the way I swapped your video for a better quality version, I have it on hand because I've posted it on AudioSex. My favorite Skinny Puppy song would probably be Assimilate and that had a simple but great line: "rot and assimilate" That's what happens in such a corporate musical environment, we try to assimilate by making cookie cutter music and we rot away because music has become less about talent, style and substance and more about recouping investments and what will appeal to the most people, it's all market driven. Shit even Woodstock was started by a bunch of businessmen. The average person doesn't want to seek out something special anymore, they just want whatever is sold to them and that scares the shit out of me.

I totally know what you are saying and me saying this kind of contradicts what i said before and i pretty much listen to the opposite of skrilex (although i like a couple of his song) (paul van dyk , Armin van Buuren , Markus Schulz etc) shit my favorite song is Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata but my point was he is still a artist some people may not think so but i bet he has worked his ass off to get where he is as most people do but just because you don't like his music how can you justifie calling some one a name when you dont know the person or know what he/she has been threw to get where they are.

Btw not meaning to argue with you man, your a awesome guy but just trying to get you to understand my point of view.

Welcome to the human race, we are walking contradictions sewn together with skin and bone. I actually like the other artists you mentioned especially Markus Schulz. Armin and Van Dyk used to be great but the last stuff they put out was meh. Still think they were great artists though, nobody is always consistent especially when you put out a vast catalog of work and I can't discount their contributions to music. That's funny that Piano Sonata Number 14 is your favorite song too. I actually made a contemporary version that I played for my father before he died from lung cancer. I still remember it like it was yesterday, he was sitting by the window looking out at life and I couldn't even imagine what he was feeling in that moment of what I can only refer to as the horror and absurdity of existence. Nobody sells you that picture when they speak of God, that kind of utter indifference. I know what I was feeling but my feelings couldn't even match what must have been going through his head at the time and that scares me. Anyway like I said I'm not judging him as a human being though I'm not exactly impartial because I feel that he is destroying culture and yes it does piss me off that you probably never heard of Front Line Assembly but they were making aggressive sounds for longer than Skrillex has been alive and with style and substance nonetheless. I also think that FLA contributed quite a bit to culture yet many don't even know about that because it's not music that is going to make some executive money. There's a spin on the saying the road to hell is paved with good intentions that goes something like: nobody goes about the process of building otherwise. I'm sure many artists put a lot into their music even Miley Cyrus. Does that mean that we should judge their work merely on effort alone? No because some people put in a lot of effort AND they made great music that added something to the art. That is something I respect, effort alone just doesn't cut it. Like for example if I put in a lot of effort here but you couldn't see any results for AudioZ as a whole would you still look at me the same. You'd be lying if you said you would. And here he is putting effort in not for music or people but for selfish reasons so it's completely irrelevant. The real question I have to ask myself is am I really mad at Skrillex or just mad at the system and framework that keeps him in the spotlight.

PS: thanks for that last line man, you're good people too. I do understand your point of view but I'm not trying to say he's a bad person, I don't know him well enough to make that estimation. It's not a personal thing, I can substitute his name in my commentary and go with Miley Cyrus instead and it would still make the same point.

MrA you deleted your comment but I already wrote up a response:
Thanks man. You know I spent my whole life not fearing death like most people. I actually have even been brought back from the "other side" before in the emergency room but when cancer touched my life it scared the shit out of me in ways I didn't think were possible and now I fear it. Sometimes dying isn't even the worst thing, it's how it can happen. Since then I've known quite a few people that are battling this disease, some of them you might even know and it's heartbreaking when you know that as much as you would be willing to do for them you can't help in any meaningful way. It became a word that was everywhere for me.

I think I can help to answer that. You're mostly mad about the system. But that frustration also spills over on people, because we know that everybody has a choice. So it's sad to see a lot of ppl follow some stupid path or just act like puppets when they could just as well do the opposite. And even if they did it just a little bit it could change a lot.

I'm pretty frustrated with a lot of ppl around me ATM. I'm an active supporter of the Pirate Party over here and we have elections comin up. But despite all the revelations about NSA from Snowden and such, all the polls indicate that we will take a real beating compared to last time around. How are ppl thinking? Do they actually want gov's and bureaucrats to track and control every friggin thing that they do?
IDK, I guess it's just one more sign that real freedom, integrity and alternative ways ain't worth much in this crazy world

Sorry for goin on a little OT rant, it's probly just my typical Monday anxiety that's makin me freak out a bit.

That's it isn't it, you hit the nail on the head. I equate it to feeling like an alien looking from the outside and wanting to scream or do just about anything to get people to reconsider their choices. Every action is a cause set in motion and the problem is some of our causes ain't about shit and the ones that are...well they're just not convenient. They don't come in a handy package and nice wrapping with a pretty little bow. They require things like time, effort, risk and a willingness to seek alternative solutions, to go against the grain. I think the problem is that we're insulated from the eventual destinations of our choices. If we could see them clearly we would make better decisions but people don't want to look at that because it's difficult and humans like things easy. I feel you man, I really do. I live in a place surrounded by people like that too and it frustrates the fuck out of me. I actually brought up Snowden to one of my friends and he had no idea what I was talking about and that shit almost broke my brain. His answer was he's too busy working to think about stuff like that. I responded to him: don't you understand that it's all related. There's a reason that you have to work so hard just to make ends meet, there's a reason that people get raped on taxes...it's so these scumbags can pay for more of these ridiculous projects and that's not just limited to the US. Like that article I put up about how Obama is paying 20 billion for some helicopters that won't even be ready for a decade. That's almost half of what it would cost to feed all the people on public assistance. That conversation reminded me of that Niemoller poem: "and then they came for me and there was nobody left to speak for me" except in this case it's more like "and then there was nobody left to speak."

The Joker summed it all up in this speech: https://youtube.com/watch?v=MGXwJREgmgM

Yeah they definitely picked a great bunch of guys. The thing I love the most about the video is when the other guys are making fun of them for looking like zombies or whatever and then they get blown away when they can tear it up. Great track, great lyrics, great video.
Creepy are the people unable to do something.
Sitting on an armchair fenced in their creation.
Look up to be there, anywhere is somewhere.
Itchy past scratch the itch.

Feel about a nation, so precious is the freedom.
Carousel the brass ring, reach into a black mass.
So its corroded, it's always polluted.
We all want some of it.
Maybe all the people, now left without no loving.
Where within the strength gone better see it coming.
Get off the fence trip, rip up the garbage.
Make it up to the earth bitch...
I love those verses, it reminds me of that thread I put up about whether the world can change and some people were just ready to pack it in...but they hadn't even done anything to improve it. They're right by default because how can massive global change even be possible if they're not open to the idea that it is? screenshot
