ribon_ff, Use Audacity / Free Audio Editor / Power Sound Editor to read these .MOGG audio files.
Example with Audacity Once you have downloaded and installed Audacity on your computer, open the program using the icon on your desktop or in the "Start" menu of your computer. Click "File" and then "Open" and then select the .MOGG file you'd like to open. All of the .MOGG file's multiple audio tracks will display in the main program window.

ribon_ff, audacity is practice enouth if your Mac do not play 32 bit waves, works perfect. But I personly love to use "Acoustica Mixcraft" those old versions that do not have VST inside. There is no noise when you save your project in Acoustica.

One of the most wonders of Multitracks are the ability to understand singing, analyze how singers are so free when singing and how far they are from the perfect pitch The difference of the "bad and good music"; the "bad" ones have the natural evidence of human fails.

The other wonder is when you just play the "Soprano part of the music" leadng voice, the upper part with the lower part, the "Bass", doing so, you can understand harmony, remember all those "BACH" compositions for two voices made for keyboard. For compositions students is a must, if your music sounds "perfect", "good enough" with the voice and bass, so you got it, forget all the others parts. Later do the guitar, keyboards, drums etc.

Try this, get more famous multitracks as you can, turn off all drums and percussion tracks, render on a CD for your friends to listen. Do not tell them. Result: No one will note the absence of battery, what is this phenomenon, nothing against the drummers.

Play with your musicians friends, render just the Drums and Bass and tell them to guess the songs, they will miss 80%, even knowing the song. So, what is vital in music, ask your self.

Try this out, when you go to the farm, get a trumpet and play "AMAZING GRACE" in any tune far from the cows, you will notice that some notes during the songs are all cows looking at you, and in certain parts of the music, the cows will approach you.

I guess thats just your opinion on Percussion and Rhythm. Apart from Accappellas and classical music without percussion, rhythm is key to any song. One can be sure that the first "tracks" on earth were drums only. A great beat pushes all other musical elements forward and creates connections. A great beat makes your body + parts move. IMHO a human voice alone can be beautiful, but in most cases it's the accompanying harmonies and rhythms that are fascinating.

dwoozle,
When I was finishing my Ph.D. I had to write about drumming, I agree with you is so fascinating and Eastern percussion richer still. But the argument that it all started with percussion is only a theory, no one was there. And also there is rhythm in the melody, harmony, riffs etc.. Everything is rhythm. But suppose it all began with just the rhythm of drums, I would say that music has evolved beyond that. And there is no melody without harmony, and harmony is implied in the melody, just look at tons of books on reharmonization. The body is not forced to move because of music, remember, early jazz was used for dancing, no one raises the chair today. Sometimes I listen works without drums, works perfectly, listen to Laura Pausini "Mi Dispiace", such a work.
