The “trap” is an oft-used term within the current confines of Hip Hop and modern music at large. Like so much within this beautiful art form, there comes a time to reclaim, bring it back to the base elements and strip down bloated veneers.Divided Souls Entertainment delivers their version, their incarnation with Soul Trap 2. Embodying an ethos that connects the past with the present by “bringing the analog feel into the digital era,” Divided Souls offers their sonic vision in this latest installment.
For those producers looking to slide into this particular style of production or those more reared in the “ways of the old boom bap,” they’ve got you covered. The initial offering of sounds in Soul Trap 2 provides for a slightly cleaner, yet full-bodied punch that people have come to expect from Divided Souls Entertainment. However, this time out, the production duo has linked with Bullyfinger to allow beat makers a glimpse into his sonically creative world. No corners were cut as he provides three different folders of the originals but processed and tweaked as only Bullyfinger does. The AKAI s950, OTO Machines BISCUIT, and Dave Smith Instruments DSM02 Character Unit were utilized to give altered takes on these sounds. Finally, each kick, snare, bass, and percussion hit was ran through the API 512 and the NEVE 542 for warmth and depth. Offering more flexibility for one’s creativity was the underlying goal of this project with expanded options to fit a producer’s needs.
As with the first volume, Soul Trap 2 is much more than simply 808 bottom end, but a glimpse of what trap music can sound like.
