Native Instruments Action Strings KONTAKT screenshot
TEAM MAGNETRiXX 02 December 2012 | 9.13 GB
Native Instruments has introduced Action Strings – a phrase-based instrument, featuring a 60-piece string orchestra, that’s designed to let you create ‘epic, blockbuster sound’.

Performed by the FILMharmonic Orchestra Prague, Action Strings offers with over 14GB of musical phrases. The orchestra is made up of a high ensemble featuring 22 violins, eight violas and six cellos, as well as a low ensemble containing ten violas, eight cellos and six basses. The phrases range from basic rhythmic patterns to intricate melodies, each recorded live in every key, and in two dynamic levels.

STRING THEORY

The phrases in ACTION STRINGS were performed by the FILMharmonic Orchestra Prague – sampled in exquisite detail by experienced score producers, Dynamedion. The orchestra was made up of 60 musicians – 36 in the high ensemble (22 violins, eight violas and six cellos), and 24 in the low ensemble (ten violas, eight cellos and six basses).

The phrases range from basic rhythm patterns to complex melodies, each recorded live in every key, and in two dynamic levels. Blend between the dynamic levels via the mod wheel, switch the harmonic patterns to minor or major via velocity, or change the meter to fit your production. And because these strings are recorded as phrases, the sound is stunningly natural at all times.

Here’s a preview of Action Strings:

SIMPLE AND FLEXIBLE

ACTION STRINGS is designed to make your job easier. All the 150 phrases are organized into themes of five, with five additional custom slots. All slots can be assigned or changed easily via the phrase browser, making the coherent development of your track completely straightforward. Every phrase is playable in all keys, and is selectable via keyswitch – create epic progressions without spending a lifetime studying music theory and arrangement.

Play phrases in Trigger mode for more control or sync your phrase to the ‘1’ of your host’s tempo. Utilizing KONTAKT’s Time-Machine Pro, you can drastically alter the tempo of the phrase in real time, even progressive changes like ritardando or accelerando – the sound remains strong and natural at all times.

ABOUT DYNAMEDION

Founded by Pierre Langer and Tilman Sillescu, Dynamedion has established itself as a leader in soundtrack composition, orchestra production and sound design on the European computer game market. Their work on Halo Legends, KINECT StarWars, Alan Wake, and Crysis 2 have set the standard for large-scale projects in the industry and won a reputation for unsurpassed quality. Also highly renowned for scoring movie trailers – including The Last King of Scotland, The Bourne Ultimatum and 10,000 B.C – Dynamedion have received numerous prizes and music awards in the past decade.

The epic, blockbuster sound of a string orchestra, instantly playable and recorded live in stunning quality.

Add instant orchestral drama to your productions
Choose from 14 GB of flexible, playable phrases
Lightning-fast results in pristine studio quality

Running in KONTAKT 5 or the free KONTAKT 5 PLAYER, ACTION STRINGS lets you select phrases with your left hand and control chords, melodies and tonality with your right – making it a cinch to create edge-of-the-seat sequences, whatever your production expertise.

ACTION STRINGS is available at the NI Online Shop for $339 / 299 €.

RRRRRRRR (Tires Screeching) Did someone complain about purchasing an account??? OK let me put this into perspective. IF you want it really bad... then there is a 48hour option for $4.99... it will take you less than 48 hours to download I hope, and you curse at Sunny??? Do u realize what he has given???? Seriously man.

I would like to know how much host sites are making Its got to be millions
look at Kim dot com from megaupload he was boasting that he had 50 million users.
at $1 each thats $50,000000.

So Jiemayn why give your money to people who don't really don't need your money
when most hosts have a free service. Call me old fashioned but I still hear the
music from the old exe's that play DON'T MAKE MONEY FROM WAREZ.

Sunny should take note of that I'll wait to find the release from Dynamics

@ S.T.A.

I respect your opinion, but that's it is really. I actually disagree with your labeling the use of this type of software as "lazy"

In many situations the strings could only function as a small element to reinforce the composition as a whole.

If I were writing music and a friend contributed to the composition by suggesting a supportive string line, would that too be lazy? Or collaboration? Or if i were writing a song for a rock band and the gtr player says "Hey how about we play the line like this"? Is that lazy of me to agree with the guitar player? Or is that part of a composers full use of the resources available to create an original work of art?

I don't think there is a solid answer. Only opinions. Which are meaningless unless you put energy into believing that opinion.

I think people here were "rubbed the wrong way" by your words because it certainly felt like your opinion was presented more as fact or truth instead of what it really is ... just one man's opinion.

Don't take such statements too serious. Often those who claim to be the real purists ("Oh well, I don't use samples, I synthezise everything myself blabla") are just common uptight nerds with no serious muscial output whatsoever. Sometimes they are good at Youtube tutorials, but mainly that's it.

Others just use the tools they're getting and make music.

@ Burg

Ok,maybe my choice of term might've been a bit touchy for a few,& I understand. But the reason why I used that definition,is because IMO,these types of products don't really provide much of a choice to let composers/producers maximize their abilities at their behest;but rather more like enter & confine them into quick-fix & flat categorizations, where a highlighting distinction is virtually unattainable. To put it succinctly,I simply consider that besides them ''simplifying'' many specifics' workflow to a degree( & thus subtracting a sense of pride or credit for a production,at least in my view),well still even then there's insufficient flexibility & expressive ducts in the majority of these tools(NOT ALL,LET THAT BE KNOWN),to truly render something that won't literally at some point,be replicated with the same phrase or fusion/transition thereof on another musician's spectrum.

Now,of course any might say that by this logic, any standard non-phrase-based libraries with common users(as in basically a huge mound of users for each decent library-or company for that matter- be it of Strings or whatever else),suffer this same reality/fate...& this is true.Yes,it is true,as most don't have hundreds of thousands of composites of X-currency lying around,to develop a truly one-of-a-kind sample set like for instance Hans Zimmer's etc.But still, this inconvenient reality is very much so to a way more limited & reduced state-of-affairs.

One also must IMO take into account, that the degree of this relation between users,or the aperture of an outlet to a library's identification, will vary a lot depending on its quality,& just as well as the dexterity of the user.Like for instance,to refer the issue of a library's quality range & identification:You will have to employ just a bit more of an effort & time, surfacing & separating the superb sound of deals like 8DiO's Adagio lines, from lets say East West's Hollywood concepts,or Cinesamples' Cine-trademarks,or even VSL's Dimension packs although as far as I'm concerned these latter are the best(to name a few developers who are on top of these VI games);than you would any of the above, from stuff like IKM's Miroslav Philharmonik,&/or even NI's Session-spinoffs amongst many more of similar grounds. So yes, having said that...so long as any doesn't have or develops their very own & induplicable library,& a great quality one at that to actually make it work for something a bit more than a few notes here or there,WELL WE ARE ALL SHARING THE SAME STUFF IN INTRINSIC CONTEXTS.It's simply up to each one to try to do something that has a within-the-inevitable-limitations,personal seal or touch.Yes,as in one that is even harder to attain IMO,when using these pre-defined & conflictive to ME,tools.

I don't hate them, nor have some vendetta against them,so don't get me wrong.I simply do not use them for the reasons stated,& any is free to do or think as they wish if it works for them.As a matter of fact,as I also made clear in a previous post, that I am open to or will/would have no problem to use a library of this sort,if it has enough mediums or resources to truly & realistically intertwine/mix/morph elements,to thus then truly feel like something original or at least not recognizable right-off-the-bat,was achieved.

As for your examples, well I respect the opinion that encloses them;but I do consider you're talking about a whole different matter. As you say & proving my point here, well taking a melodic suggestion,or issuing a collaboration from a friend or just anyone using ORIGINAL material concocted by be it an actually physical instrument,or a wide-ranging library with NO pre-established sequences ringing pretty much or even literally sonically the same in many others' productions...is NOT at all what I'm talking about, nor questioning as far as better or IMO valid as viable means,in order to call something fairly distinctive, own, original,or more specifically, separated from another producer's work. But any who,& also as you say...it's just one man's opinion differing from another's.

@ dokx1,

Dude, learn to READ before you mouth-off with utter irrelevancies.WHEN DID I SAY I WAS A ''PURIST'',OR THAT I ''DIDN'T OR DON'T USE SAMPLES'',or any of the nonsense you just wrote??? Do you even know the difference between a SAMPLE & A LOOP,which is BTW well separated in this discussion?!Well apparently you don't;& you sure as Hell don't know a flying Rat's ass about me,so where do you come off with the pseudo right to imply or even hint at denominating ''what I am'' or ''what I know'',huh? You either have a very rudimentary comprehension of clear information,or you're just trying to show some quite frankly ridiculous & uncalled for sense of trolling ''solidarity'' with Burg, when you have not even a single point or reason to write what you just did.

Did I take some unwarranted swing at you,or Burg,or simply disrespect anyone for that matter? Or did I even to say the least, fucking mention the word Synthesize,or what it actually suggests or means???LOL!Seriously with people like you, thinking they just need to intervene or jump at something that is not even directed at them, while also ironically not even--clearly as you well demonstrate--knowing or taking the time to actually understand a crap about what is being discussed,in a civil & orderly fashion.

I've read all the posts about this release and this "argument" convincingly sways both ways. But I must say this:

1. This is a great upload.
2. If you are creative, loop based or not, you can use this tool in your productions
3. For the naturalists out there, no one here mentioned the fact that you CAN play your
own rhythms using the staccato mode in this library. Which is important because I like
to write my own rhythms as well.
4. With velocity and volume scripts on the fly, you can't go wrong.

Got love and respect for you all, keep producing!!!!

Lord Gaga,

I completely agree with both your points.& well, the second one being precisely what I meant, but just conveyed in an alternate form.yes

& hey, regardless of whatever, well at the end of the line I think we can ALL agree upon a common denominator that reads:Of what any makes no matter what the via taken to reach the given culmination, well so long as it makes at least THEM happy,so be it.
Live 2 build a legit, lustrous,& legendary legacy.Much else is meaningless.

Well, i would feel a bit limited if i used loops in one of my melodic compositions, because then i wouldn't get to create my own material...then again, i'm a composer, not a producer.

Thanks to all for the crack and the upload but if any of you are on the fence about this, it's relatively unimaginative and one-dimensional for how much HD real estate it takes up. The tempo-phrases are cool but the only crucial element you can really change here is the rhythm, the string sounds stay pretty much the same.

Great post Sunny, thanks for passing along the goodies from Team Magnatrixx. Looking forward to the next big release (cough...Spitfire Albion...cough)

Evernash3,
Make sure that you are using the latest version of Kontakt (v5.0.3.5812). Kontakt libraries are notorious for having poor backwards compatibility.
