This instrument is compiled entirely from re-tuned "bourdon" strings (drones) of a Polish Hurdy-gurdy. The original recorded Lira is normally tuned in C/G however, for this Kontakt library, each of its drones has been retuned and recorded in 24bit depth for more authentic sound.

All sounds in this third instalment of "Lira Korbowa - Authentic Polish Hurdy-gurdy" library are organically extracted from the instrument built by Stanislaw Wyzykowski - one of the pioneers of hurdy-gurdy revival. No preservatives or frozen imports here! All content in the series is captured by the set of three microphones:

* condenser - positioned above the instrument and essential to catch all those wandering overtones,

* piezo-ceramic - sitting tightly near the bridge and ensuring that this ancient wood is not vibrating in vain!

* silver bullet - roaming where necessary to get the most unique experience: from depths of the body to the hinges of tangent box!

The keyboard is divided into three zones:

Left: processed double "D" stretched across one octave for extra low drone
Middle: drones including chromatic notes
Right: natural harmonics relayed into a playable chromatic keyboard

Velocity layers controls the friction: from slow wheel turning when a string is barely making a sound to high speeds when string is almost losing its grip on the wheel!

Harmonics have its natural sound divided into two velocity layers: low - for natural sounds; top - for vibrato (yes! harmonics + vibrato :) )

Also, don't be surprised if some TOP velocities will 'stall' the string! That what's happening if wheel is turned too fast - a harmonic chaos I couldn't help to capture :) This and more sonic surprises inside - just like with a real hurdy-gurdy.

* 4 round robins - for more organic hurdy-vibe!
* including all hurdy-gurdy grittiness! knocks, squeaks, imperfections
* on average, 16 samples per drone notes, 8 samples per harmonic note
* one single patch that cover it all
* authentic sound without over-stretching the original recordings

AudioSex and AudioZ are everyone's dirty little secret. From this vantage point I see a lot of interesting things in regards to who our members are which is really exciting and informative. I'm truly glad that musicians and developers can come and learn, that's what that project is all about. That being said it's also nice to show a little gratitude for the hard work and knowledge that members such as Alraun and Clandestine have imparted to us all. The way I would have handled it would be to include a thanks in the library literature to the members/forum that helped someone's vision come to fruition. Like BigCat did when a member helped him design one of the best libraries that he ever released. If not that then, at the very least, include a thanks in the topic and mention the library that these scripts helped create. That's the way it's done.

Dear Alraun.

I bet that if anyone here has visited the actual site where my libs are sold legally - namely: http://sampleism.com/piotrnowotnik - he or she would definitely notice a big, juicy 'thank you' for your script posted in the info. Yes, it is sitting there.

I myself signed up for A.S. account to thank you directly but activation email never arrived...
Nevertheless, we finally meet here - and while I am grateful for your script, I wish more audio users would purchase the content legally on aforementioned page thus giving starting developers such as I, incentive to keep going...

You are absolutely right and that is much appreciated as is the inclusion of our forum name. Good of you mate, much obliged. Also if you have any issues with your account you can always feel free to contact me here and I will help you get situated. Sometimes we seem to have issues with those dreaded activation e-mails (did you check the junk folder) but no worries because we're working on the relaunch so pretty soon all these problems will be a thing of the past and we'll have you feeling sexier than ever. Send me your nick and I will manually activate your account. Soon we'll also be expanding this script area, possibly even looking into a whole section if there is interest which I believe there would be and it can evolve over time into an infinitely useful resource, perhaps a whole programming section. One thing is for sure: big things are coming to that forum.

I also completely agree that people should purchase your library legally if they enjoy it and use it in their productions and thereby help fund future development. I actually was upset just today that Boards Of Canada Synthesis 3 was released early because it's a niche library and I'd like to encourage the company to make more. So believe me I know where you're coming from and I encourage our members to support good developers that sell quality products at a fair price.
