Velvet Grand
It was only natural for the Steinway B - one of the most recorded pianos in history - to serve as the foundation for the largest piano library we have ever created. Its expressive, rich and realistic character, in combination with the depth of sampling we allowed ourselves this time, translate directly into versatility of use. Look under the hood with us, and see for yourselves what close to 26 000 individual samples are capable of!

Velvet Grand was recorded in Sofia Session Studio A with multiple microphones which later we summed up to 5 microphone positions - Close, Tube, Ribbon, Decca, Hall. The different combinations of those microphones can really change the character and sound of the piano, especially the different combinations between the Close, Tube and Ribbon mics, all of which were within close distance to the actual grand piano. In order to achieve a high level of detail, we've sampled the piano in 7 dynamics, all of them with 5 round robins. The same way we have also sampled the sound of the sustain pedal.

All samples are NCW format, you can delete mic channels which you dont need, close channel samples approxx 17 GB.

I sort of distrust this product. An 82 GB piano? It seems over the top and unnecessary. But competitors will always be competitive, I guess. I swear most of us use small library pianos.

There is no round robin info about Walker, Velvet have 7 velocity with 5 RR, pratically 35 different sample for each note.

You might try the Kawai Legend, which has interesting Velocity plus technology. Provided you have a keyboard that supports aftertouch.

The more samples a library has, the greater the resolution in terms of playing the instrument.
Most important for those that need that type of realism from an acoustic instrument library. For someone this may be just what they need.

Just thinking that the greatest pianists in the world recorded on the strangest pianos in terms of recording, and when I listen to them I love every note coming from those old pianos. each one with a different DNA and few microphones in different positions. Oscar Peterson's recordings on the austrian Bosendörfer remain crystal perfect. Carmen Cavallaro with her Steinway is perfect. Liberace with his impeccable americanBaldwin, and others Roger Wiliams, Bolling, Hancock, Corea, Errol Garner, Horowits, Rubinstein.

And none of them need to be remastered.

Just my 2 cents... The playability of this library seems very nice, balanced. But ALL the samples seem sorta "distant" to me. And rather than the close mics filling the bill, by themselves it just sounds "thin". I still haven't heard a piano library that blows away Piano Noire IMO.

Yes, I think Piano Noire responds the way I want it to, at least for my playing style. I still like the Alicia Keys Piano too, in spite of a few ringy notes. Can't comment on pianoteq. I've never bought or tried it.

81 Gigabytes for only a 7 layer instrument? My go to piano Ravenscroft275 has 19 velocity layers and it's only 6 Gigabytes on disc.
