Strezov Sampling AFFLATUS Chapter II Brass KONTAKT-DECiBEL screenshot
Team DECiBEL | 08 Nov 2023 | 108.71GB
Inspired by film and classical music icons, this comprehensive and no-holds-barred collection of brass instruments grants you access to curated ensembles, traditional orchestral sections in various sizes along with soloists, all based on popular soundtracks while covering the classical symphonic repertoire, as well. Consistently recorded normale and with various types of mutes, Afflatus Chapter 2 Brass makes it easier and more satisfying to write for orchestral brass than ever before.

After 5 years of conceptual recordings and polishing, Chapter 2 of the Afflatus Series is finally here. Pushing the concept far beyond the first installment of the series, Afflatus Chapter 2 Brass is a comprehensive no-holds-barred collection of brass instruments based 100% on user feedback and the core strengths of the first chapter, making it a true workhorse collection of brass instruments.

Capturing conducted musical performances as opposed to static generic samples, Afflatus Chapter 2 features several curated ensembles based on some of our and your favourite film soundtracks and pieces from the classical repertoire. These highly specialized and inspiring patches deliver instantly gratifying results beyond what traditional multisamples are capable of achieving. Recorded with different articulations and dynamic layers, these curated ensembles are far more than one-trick ponies; they are serious scoring and music production tools.

From a gigantic Barbarian Low Brass Ensemble able to perform thunderous walls of brass while still maintaining clarity and an organic sound, to 10 Phantom Horns amplifying themselves through Marshall Amps back into the room into playable, expressive and delicate brass swells (The Chosen One), as well as muted trumpets with vibraphone and saxophones (Noir Brass), the available colours are numerous and required an extensive amount of test sessions to get the best out of the concepts they are based on. We are proud to say that we have 9 different curated ensembles with multiple articulations as well as dynamic layers in the 1.0 release of Afflatus Chapter 2 Brass. For more in depth information, please check out our Content Overview List.

Barbarian Brass
Iceberg Brass
Phantom Brass
Mountain Hotel Normale and Cup Muted
Space Horror
Noir Brass
The Chosen One
Hunter Brass
Imperial Brass A and B

On top of that, Chapter 2 also comes as a comprehensive and consistently sampled workhorse brass collection containing various ensemble sizes and soloists of every section recorded normale and with various mutes (where applicable) for the different instruments. Featuring the latest iterations of our acclaimed polyphonic true legato and a brand new user interface allowing you to customize each articulation and the sound to your liking. Special attention was given towards seamless crossfading between dynamic layers and tightness in the round robin editing. The top dynamic is a blasting fff, while the lowest dynamic is a soft pp. A wide selection of different lengths for marcato playing as well as playable sfz crescendo, slides, wt/ht trills, flutter are available for each instrument performed normale and with mutes where possible.

The library was edited in such a way that playability and performance was key. There are only minimal offsets - if any - needed to get the performance 100% tight.

4 Horns
2 Horns
Solo Horn
3 Trumpets
Solo Trumpet
3 Trombones

Are minified releases still a thing?
(I don't remember if the rules changed to disallow them)

Based on the Strezov Sampling Jade Ethnic Orchestra Minified release there could be a big space savings.
- The library size has been reduced from ~102GB to 18.2 GB.
- Only the 'Close' microphone exists.
- All articulations have been kept intact.
  Resident 10.01.2021 2 126
I was wondering the same thing. I haven't seen any 'minified' libs in some time.

There is no need for people to post duplicate edited releases, you can edit and resave them yourself if needed.

When a kontakt instrument is released check how many mics are supplied, in this case the website states
" Recorded in an ambient medium-sized hall with 4 mic positions (Close, Section, Decca and Hall)"

That means you can make this lib 4x smaller if you only want the close, because most of the other mic options are essentially the same thing w/ more room reverb

Weeps in 'Nowhere near enough hard drive space available' mode.
Right, what can I delete? I'm actually thinking if their strings are anything to go by, I can get rid of all Spitfire libraries.
  Resident 30.01.2014 6 2174
All of Spitifire would be like 3 TB or even more, hahaha. You only need 250 GB or so to be able to unpack the library. Then you can copy 125 GB again onto your HD.

The nightmare is trying to remember which of my old songs used them...I used to suck at rendering to audio
  Resident 31.01.2017 605
For orchestral instruments keep Albion (if you liked it) and use some good reverb, that way you can get most of the other libraries' sounds that have those fancy marketing names. All of them have been created based on the same Albion samples.

Now this Afflatus is tempting, it's just unfortunate that it gets to the same league (in size) as Orchestral Tools.
  Member 24.08.2023 16
I never knew that about the reuse of Albion samples!
I'm tempted to get rid of all those Berlin strings expansions (first chair etc) don't think I've ever used them.
  Resident 13.02.2018 2 346
Hard to deny even this size..it's brass baby!
My gratitude and appreciation for each release, generates three additional customers for the developer

May god have mercy on our SSDs.
A minified version would be nice.
  Member 30.04.2021 19 85
I agree with you on that.
At least with Decca Mix only so we don't have any issue to use and play with that Brass.
  Member 4.09.2020 348
i feel its a waste as that minified release is a duplicate that costs a certain number of lumps of coal to be burned somewhere to support those watts in a datacenter somewhere else... You can of course edit it yourself if you only want one mic

BTW, why would you keep decca mic rather than the close mic?
  Resident 30.12.2017 1 1739
you could also crack software yourself tbh no biggie

does this work for anyone?
  Member 4.08.2015 37 637
This goes very nicely with Pacific Strings! with Berlin Woodwinds/Cinematic Studio Woodwinds, you've got a nice orchestra
  Resident 21.04.2014 1591
A 3 minutes Demo that tell an objective story without those boring talks, very good. Even the 25 minute Demo was a pleasure to watch.

I was able to perceive some nuances of the winds that gave me goosebumps, very natural and the best of all is that it has the fantastic CIMBASSO.
Before I went to music university, I didn't even know what that was and what it was for, the imposing and powerful sound of the CIMBASSO is The Kraftwerk of the cinema sound, that kind of sound that penetrates the human soul without bursting the human eardrums, in addition to having a clarity and timbre that the tuba never had, for those who still think that the tuba is useful in an orchestra, it is a matter of taste. For me, the cimbasso is the death of the tuba.
