THE SPIRITUAL SOUNDS OF THE VOICE
Invoke the old magic with these mysterious voices from beyond. These otherworldly calls will deliver you into strange and unknown places, enticing your primordial inner self to break your compositions free from all inhibitions.

For the MONGOLIAN VOICES - ANCIENT PHRASES library, we tapped into the shamanic sounds of traditional Mongolian singing. Divided into three categories, Female, Male, and Throat, the library delves into the more mystical places of vocalizations. The Female and Male parts are based on the traditional long song, or Urtiin duu, a most ancient art loudly sung from the mountaintops, each long, drawn-out syllable evoking the deep, vast, open spaces of the Mongolian steppe.

Then there’s the famous throat singing – the Mongol Khoomei – which relies on guttural vibrations and circular breathing, creating a completely alien, otherworldly sound. At first listen, it inspires visions of far out sci-fi/fantasy worlds or ancient religions.

MONGOLIAN VOICES - ANCIENT PHRASES is the perfect vocal instrument to add a raw, esoteric flavor to your music.

ASHIT NERGUI, ERDENETSETSEG KHENMEDEKH & MUNKHBAATAR BAT-ULZII
THE ARTISTS BEHIND MONGOLIAN VOICES – ANCIENT PHRASES

Throat singer Ashit Nergui is one of the most famous in the world. He studied under the renowned singers D. Sundui and D. Ganbold to attain the mastery over his vocals. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Music from the Cultural Institute of Mongolia, and a Master’s in Mongolian Music from the National University of Mongolia.

Erdenetsetseg Khenmedekh did the singing for the female long song. She claimed first prize in a competition in Ulan-Ude, starting a long career performing Mongolian traditional singing. She has an incredible range of voice enjoyed by people across the world.

A master of the Mongolian long song, Munkhbaatar Bat-Ulzii, regularly performs with the Ulan Bator Morin Khuur Ensembles. He takes part in shows both locally and across the world.

CLEAN AND INTUITIVE INTERFACE
Drawing from the same spirit as our Lyrical and Ethnic Phrases series, MONGOLIAN VOICES – ANCIENT PHRASES delves into a world of mysticism and profundity. The unique style of the vocals do not fit neatly into Western musical theory, especially the throat singing. They are technically in a major key, but don’t feel this way and can work with most other modes.

The interface gives you your choice of phrases, while an FX page offers you full control over the EQ. Use the added delay to draw out unexpected complexities and reverb to bring out the full sense of vastness commonly felt with these traditional vocalizations.

MALE, FEMALE, AND THROAT
The phrases are divided into three categories: Male, Female, and Male Throat. The Male and Female categories are composed of Urtiin duu singing. Translated as “long song”, this 2,000-year-old form of singing takes an honored place in Mongolian society and is often sung at festivals and events. The singing evokes vast, wide-open spaces and transcends time.

The Male Throat category is for the mystical guttural voice that involves circular breathing and can produce resonant harmonies through 2 or 3 notes sung at the same time. A skill of voice that few in the world possess.
