Cinesamples CineBrass CORE v1.7.0 rollerball's Lite Version KONTAKT screenshot
AudioZ Exclusive | 26 May 2021 | KONTAKT | 1.20GB
This is a light version of the Cinesamples CineBrass CORE library. The library contains a combination of solo and ensemble brass instruments, recorded in the legendary MGM Scoring Stage. The instruments sound regal and majestic, and the dynamics and tone go from a warm, mellow tone to an epic loud tone. This library provides an instant cinematic brass sound with a variety of essential articulations. The sound is especially good for a classic cinematic Hollywood sound, although with some tweaking it can fit modern and hybrid scoring needs quite well too. The patches are very playable and it's easy to get ideas recorded in no time. Overall, a good all-round brass library which helps in getting great results very quickly.

Following changes were made to the library:
1. The "Close", "Room", and "Surround" mic position sample groups were removed. This is one of the very few libraries where the default mix sounds awesome and rarely needs any tweaking. In about 90% of use cases, I found myself using this mix only and rarely ever used the other mic positions.

2. The samples in the original release were in 24-bit 48kHz format. The samples were converted to 16-bit 48kHz and repacked into NKX containers. A null test results in a peak of -85dB, which won't be audible at all. Also, after quite some testing, no issues were found with noise floor build-up when playing lots of notes. The conversion process takes the size down to 1.20GB from the original 10.9GB, which is an 89% reduction!

NOTE: Kontakt v5.8.0 or higher is required. This library does not work with legit full version of Kontakt and k'd Kontakt is necessary to use this library.

Amazing job what you always doing.
Soooo much space left now on my HD now.
I hope there comes a lot more libraries like this from you.
I hate this libraries with all this useless miro positions,
it takes just enormous space.
Thank you very much!

I've come once again to the moment in which my hdd is begging for its life. Ergo, your libraries are gold! Thank you Rollerball for your work. Cheers from South America.

Awesome!

What method did you use to reduce the bit depth?
Direct Truncation? Dithering with or without added noise..?

Btw, besides skimming it down, maybe you could try something with Afflatus,
which I tried myself but wasn't able to do..

And is taking the Ensemble Staccato patch, which is the only proper Stacc in the whole library,
and take out the Basses/Celli and even Violas, and make a separate Violins Stacc out of it..

Then maybe do separate patches for the rest too, Basses, Celli, Violas..

This will be very handy, as notes won't overlap,
and will make it more correct/professional..

I don't know if the results would be optimal, but it's an idea.

(Although who knows, it's possible the library may be updated in the future..)

For reduction of bit depth, I just import the samples into REAPER and export them as 16-bit files. For dithering, I use iZotope's MBIT+ algorithm with low noise shaping.

About Afflatus, I don't have the library yet. To do what you mentioned would require a bit of understanding about the structure of the sample organisation, as well as maybe a little bit of fiddling around with scripting. If I get it someday, I'll try it out!

that's amazing work Rollerball, and I appreciate the brief analysis to you do when selecting the mic positions to keep and others to get rid of. Thanks a lot for your work! I don't know if it's a proper question, so I'm sorry and I apologize if it's not, but is there any guides/tutorials/advice for doing something like that on your own? I've got tons of good libraries from which I don't need most of their mic positions, and it'd be great to do this operation by myself, but don't know how!

Thanks! There's no proper guide really, and I've figured out some of it on my own, and some by reading different threads. But don't worry, a few members have already asked me about it, and I'll be posting a step-by-step tutorial at some point!

Afflatus is a Great sounding lib..
Maybe it's not the biggest, most voluminous sound,
but it has a Modern and Smooth sound, very Articulate and Dynamic..

It may not be the end-game workhorse lib for everything,
but it's got a very unique and different sound, great quality..

As for the Ensemble Stacc patch, I guess you're right..
I'm not an expert, but I looked inside and I couldn't tell apart the group notes.

I could see big blocks that triggered with all the parts at once,
but I couldn't find the individual samples, and I'm not skilled enough to check/modify the scripts,
so they may probably be stacked together..

Thanks for your thoughts on it. It seems interesting. Maybe I'll take a look at it some time in the future.

It would be awesome if you did the same treatment to Cinestrings,
it's got a similarly good/usable Full Mix, so it could be very handy..

Also I wonder if taking out all the extra mics will help its Performance,
being as old as they are, they're still some of the most sluggish and demanding instruments out there..
I always wondered if they could be badly programmed or something,
specially as it seems earlier versions had some problems, but gave better performance/were less demanding overall..

I find them to be Super Noisy tho, the Full Mix recording has some crazy Hiss that piles up a lot..
It would be a Very Delicate task, but I guess you could get good results with a proper denoising plug,
something like Waves X-Noise or Z-Noise, which even has profiles for White/Pink noise..

-As for the BitDepth Reduction method, I think you're doing it Right,
I would do it a little differently tho..

Basically using Izotope RX with its handy Batch Processing feature,
and with Moderate or even Medium noise shaping, No Dither, Silence auto-blanking, Limit Noise Peaks..

Reaper+plug might do it just as good,
but depending on how you're doing it, if you don't need to use other plugs,
the batch processing of the tracks could be easier with Standalone RX..

-On a final line about String libs..
Afflatus is indeed a great sounding lib,
but if I had to choose one lib to be the end-game workhorse for everything,
I think the best option in this moment could very well be Audiobro MSS..

Just an Excellent all round library, super capable and Great sounding.. massive value.

Arguably it lost a bit of the Character in comparison with LASS2 tho,
So if you had to do the Treatment on that one, I think it will be good to also include the Close mics,
the reduction will not be as notable, but it will still be lighter and give some room to adapt the sound..

Beyond that, I don't know what could be better as a workhose library in all aspects..
Maybe Hans Zimmer strings, or is it too Cold?

Or probably BBCSO, but that one is truly massive,
I wonder if they have a fully comprehensive and satisfactory Full Mix..

But yeah those haven't leaked yet

Thankyou so much for these 'lite' versions of these libraries.
I'm incredibly grateful as this gives me a decent sounding "on the go" library without dragging large external HDD with the 'full' gazillion Gb version

Amazing, rollerball, thank u very much!

As you said, Cinesamples is one of the few developers where the default mix of his libraries sounds awesome and rarely needs any tweaking. So, more Cinesamples, please!

CineWinds Pro is one of my main libraries, if you had time, please rollerball it!!!

CinePerc
CineBrass Pro
CineWinds Core
CineStrings Core

Lots of unpaid work, bro!!

Thank you very much, again, for your great work: Piano in Blue, CineBrass Core, NI Una Corda, Olafur Piano...you saved my SSD!!

Much appreciated, rollerball

P.S. Cinematic Studio Winds is a very professional library...but it is 108GB!!! Could you check if it'd possible to make a rLV with only the Main Mix?

Thanks, rollerball. Best

Thanks! I have a few libraries planned already, so after I complete them, I'll look into other stuff. I currently don't have some of the Cinesamples libraries you mentioned as well as CSW, so I'd be taking a look at them whenever I get them.

I agree CSW is an absolute must have,
and the default Full Mix is not only perfectly good/usable, but recommended by the dev..

It's got a Warm, Moderate and orthodox type sound/approach,
but done in the most Perfect way possible.

Otoh CineWinds has a more Vivid/Expressive or even hyped approach,
good for more expressive, epic or cinematic needs.

With both libraries I think one can cover the Basics perfectly well,
and only a few extra Soloists could be ever needed, like 8Dio or Chris Hein stuff,
or perhaps some modeled stuff alla SWAM..
