I know that during the beginning of their career, Jamiroquai used real strings, The Reggae Philharmonic Strings to be exact. The string parts on Canned Heat was done by Simon Hale, who arranges for string ensembles. However, he's also a keyboardist as well. So, if this is how it was done, that means that this would have had to be available in '98-'99 when the album was released.

Yes but only when played at full velocity. Different velocities give you different articulations!

I know, I'm beating the sh*t out of my MIDI keyboard but getting nothing, it must be a setting issue on my part

It only works with single notes, not with chords...at least for me!
