Bechstein Digital C. Bechstein Digital Grand KONTAKT screenshot
KONTAKT | 22.34 GB
The DAW piano – completely rethought.
The C. Bechstein Digital Grand has been developed to meet the high expectations of composers & musicians as well as comprehensive requirements in a daily recording practice at a high level.

This applies both to the sonic aspects, as well as to the usability, which remains intuitive at all times. Every control element has been constantly challenged by our product developers and extensively tested in DAW environments, but also in virtuoso live performances with different genres.

Capturing that C. Bechstein Sound
The acoustic role model for the Digital Grand is a carefully selected C. Bechstein D 282 concert grand.

With its ability to highlight and emphasize even the most subtle melody lines through its unparalleled richness of tone colors, the D 282 belongs to the best modern concert grand pianos in the world. Playing a C. Bechstein, you can freely stress a certain voice, underscore a certain melody or accentuate a certain chord, and thus make your interpretation more lively and vivid.

26 velocity layer & great attention to detail
From about 2 terabytes of recorded material, more than 10,000 carefully selected sample-zones were voiced individually! Both, software developers and piano makers worked hand in hand to create a large variety of presets for the Digital Grand to provide an impressive range and a natural sound for each sound setting.

For this purpose, the controller ranges of the innovative GUI were programmed in a way that possible sound modulations always value “the original” – the unique character of a C. Bechstein concert grand piano remaining recognizable at all times.

Innovative string-based sound shaping
The sound of a piano string is influenced by numerous parameters. With the acoustic instrument, the intoneur ensures that certain areas of the grand piano sounds warmer, more percussive, alive or restrained.

In the C. Bechstein Digital Grand, an innovative control interface containing 4 basic parameters ensures a comprehensive adjustment of the sound of each individual (!) Note.

More than 1,200 parameters are manipulated simultaneously by the UI in a playful way. At the same time, every parameter remains intuitive and controllable – and it offers both beginners and experienced sound designers an Eldorado of possibilities!

Premiere in a KONTAKT instrument: M/S sound-design
Experience real Mid-/Side sound-editing for the first time in a KONTAKT instrument! The C. Bechstein Digital Grand offers the sound engineers’ and sound designers’ method of choice for capturing acoustic instruments and makes each channel controllable inside the plugin individually with volume, compression and equalization.

The M/S signal shines in detail making the individual notes tangible through the entire dynamic range – we’re sure you’ll love it!

I will, I will.
It was a hard time waiting for this.
I even had to be hospitalized just to make it.

I'm with Olymoon, because it does make a big difference to some of us who remained back in the 5.5 days of Kontakt.... :)
..grateful for HEXWARS, R2R, SYNTHiC4TE, CASHMERE & ALL teams, AZ crew past and present, and friends I have met here . RIP and LOVE to Olymoon and his family.

For me, the choice between 5.6 or prior version is very easy as it's equal to freedom vs closed system.
Some libraries only work with 5.6, but many, many work with 5.5, so many than I have more than enough to compose the music I want to. So why would I go to a limited system?

Probably on the long term 5.6 will be more interesting, with more libraries available, and or a liberated one, but meanwhile, I stick to the open one.

great way of putting it Olymoon

agreed. Perhaps one day it will be easier with 5.6. But today, I'm sticking with what I know works and I got plenty... doesn't stop us from "wanting", but we are all good!

I was just about to buy Kontakt, as it's my favorite sampler, and I use it not only for ready-made library, but to program my own instruments.
Now that I see what N I have done I'm happy I delayed my decision.
I never buy closed systems.
Nexus have gone this way before, and we all know what happened. I don't understand how a company like Native Instruments, driven by clever persons could decide to go down this way.

I too have used Kontakt since V1... and I am not asking this rhetorically Olymoon... as I haven't updated to the Native Access yet for OS reasons and whatnot... What has made the new Kontakt 5.6 a closed system? I ask because I don't know... from what I have read on threads here, it is basically a hindrance to those who haven't "bought" it, in terms of adding certain things to the library tab etc... which is fair for them to up the ante kinda, but is there anything you can't do that you could before in terms of working with your own samples etc? Or loading other libraries from the file menu that do NOT have the draconian fees associated for developers who don't bow to NI and pony up the extra for the library add functionality?

I'm not arguing with you friend,.... I just don't know, and at some point I am sure I will have to migrate over to 5.6 (...as much as I don't look forward to it for the inconvenience, especially on the osx side..)... but if I can trouble you to explain more...

Can you imagine: A sample library produced by Bechstein themselves...

Then I guess that it's not impossible to see a sample lib produced by Steinway or Bosendorfer.

Steinway did one with Garritan and Bosendorfer with VSL.

I was really let down by this library. Nothing Special and there are many better ones. I am curious to hear what you guys think.

As you said, nothing special and a 22GB for nothing special. Man there are way much better libraries and for much less space.
Of course we're not saying this one is bad, but then again..

Unlikely. Steinway only authorized a Garritan product so far (which is not available anymore) and is more interested in stuff like their Spirio. Bosendorfer is basically Yamaha which also owns Steinberg so if they will create something it will never be a competing product. I am dying to finally see a Bosendorfer properly sampled, scripted or modelled.

Spitfire Audio is your answer for Bösendorfer. Although the library weights more than the piano itself!

Indeed.

i don't think this one has as much velocity resolution as, say, the soniccouture hammersmith but it's half the size and the character, string-eq and histogram functions are pretty unique for kontakt pianos.

Interesting. A lot of people like it, but the only way to really hear the difference is in a mix and across different genres. I'll give it a go :)
