Cinematique Instruments Colors LoFi Tapes for HALion screenshot
P2P | 27 October 2022 | 904 MB
The beauty of imperfection
Dive deep into the dust: Mix tape rattles, vinyl crackles, loop noises or the sound of an old Echolette, plus three different layers of processed vintage synthesizers, orchestral, horns, strings, piano and other beautifully imperfect instruments. The warm, unusual sound of this instrument makes it suitable for all producers and composers.

More than 40 beautifully colored sounds with a warm analog feel

Design new colors with 25 exceptional, specially designed sound sources

Three LFOs, an ease-to-use arpeggiator and additional effects

Additional master section with delay, reverb, filter, decay and more

The idea behind Colors LoFi Tapes
Cinematique Instruments wanted to design an instrument which would make the creation of new lo-fi sounds as easy as mixing different paints together on an artist’s palette. They started recording on tape, collecting noise floors and running instruments through chains of vintage gear. The result is an impressive collection of analog “colors”, which are the building blocks for completely new sounds which are full of character.

About Cinematique Instruments
René Dohmen and Joachim Dürbeck have successfully been working as composers, producers and artists in the music industry. Their work covers everything from classical productions to electronic or even abstract-experimental music as well as numerous commissions for film scores. Always in search of new and unique sounds they decided to create and release their own sample libraries under the name of Cinematique Instruments.

Working in 6, Sonic and SE, all with the new Activation Manager installed and new Retrologue patches installed. Everything seems ok, in case any are wondering about going ahead. Thanks, everybody, sincerely. All Retrologue got updated besides MPE and the Factory libraries themselves!

Nice share, thank you.
Real quick, how do you load these "libraries" in Halion? Any insight on this would be great.
Thank you.

Double click the "Colors_LoFi_Tapes.vstsound" file and this should bring up Steinberg Library Manager. Use this to install it.

Hey thanks for this release but I installed it via library manager, it shows up under halion's libraries in the library manager but won't show in Halion vst in Ableton.

That's weird. I'm using it with halion sonic. Have you tried that?

The same here. Any solution?

Same here. It's registered in Library Manager, but it doesn't show up in Halion and Halion Sonic.

Let's start on the "lightest" one, for lack of a better term, HALion Sonic SE.

On the Load tab to the far right, middle though with respect to vertical up and down - so far right middle - there is a 75% circle with an arrow on it that sits next to a turned 90 degrees hamburger menu looking thing. You want to click the circle arrow thing to rescan. It should show up well if it is in Library Manager well, already. Let me know if any need further troubleshooting.

No luck.
I've noticed though, that thesame thing happens with another Cinematique Instruments library...

I hope you guys are trying with latest official Steinberg Elicenser with latest V.R b26 applied on top. Both latest, yes. And of course, whatever solution you chose for Silk to be good. So all that.

If it's straight, your very next step should be to cut this file to C:\ root. Just open a command prompt, copy/paste this then press Enter:

move "%appdata%\Steinberg\HALion Sonic SE_64\mediabay3.db" C:\

Then open HALion Sonic SE and look for the library. If not shown still, try to make it scan again, as above with the circle arrow icon thing. Make sure the multi-program filter is not selected, to the left side more (right of the "N" button) too.

Make sure there are no selection filters applied like for only user files, or things like that, in the middle row bar thing - to the left of where the arrow circle thing is.

If you wish to restore your old database after your test, cut C:\mediabay3.db and paste it over the one at %appdata%\Steinberg\HALion Sonic SE_64 - but be warned that this will put you back to square one, though. So if the library showed don't do it, obviously.

The actual preset (it has only 1 but you do stuff with it from there to change) is called: "Colors LoFi Tapes" in "Synth Pad" category. Go to All Instrument Sets and search for it with the name, like that.

You are a treasure!
Yes. The e-licenser and the generator updates did the job. And with no need to press the refresh button.
Thank you very much. I'm not very familiar with the e-licenser procedure and you've been a great help.

You're welcome. The reason it works is not because of active blocking or any sort like that. It is because when elicenser gets updated, it actually adds entries (usually only to biggest file: SynsoPos407C.SLD, latest at time of comment: October 13, 2022 136,175 KB) to the database at:

C:\ProgramData\eLicenser\eLD

so it is giving you the new database needed to run the new stuff. But you still need the key, so-to-speak. Then V.R does the V.R thing from there.

I actually backup that folder, just because but I started doing that way back when I didn't know it was part of the elicenser installer, itself.

One last question: When I open the eLicenser, it opens a window which asks permission for Online Synchronization & Maintenance. Should I permit it or cancel it? So far I cancel it.

It is unnecessary to ever even open eLicenser for any technical reason whatsoever, when you have all latest and on Windows 10 or Windows 11 (or latest and greatest MAC OSes that V.R might support.)

Now, I know you will and we all do from time to time, maybe just because because kind of thing. That's ok - but my little spiel is to put it in perspective correctly. So no, you don't ever have to do that but on the other hand, I am unaware of it ever "hurting."

The online thing can help when the OS is old and unsupported by V.R. but you don't have to know the details because you don't run any old OS. Yes, I know, it's a guess but is it right? I think so. heh

Most have the eLicenser blocked in the firewall and only allow it in particular use cases, most of which are not needed whatsoever for anything at all, these days.

If you don't mind. I run Mojave on Mac, and after successful registration with Steinberg Library Manager v 3.1.0.272 when browsing Halion Content there is no VST3 subfolder in Halion folder Color LoFI and it is not visible as an icon in instruments. Any help or suggestionI? I would really appreciate it. I am struggling with that long enough.

I am guessing that you mean you are looking in a Nuendo or Cubase Mediabay and this is the result?

If so, check the box to the left of the name and it will ask you if you want to remove it. Tell it to "keep." Then put the check box back. If that doesn't fix it all up well, try the same thing again but only tell it to "remove" before rechecking.

If that doesn't go well, copy the new Colors_LoFi_Tapes.vstsound to anywhere else than where it is now. Copy, not cut. Then paste somewhere. Use the library manager to delete it entirely, gone. Then, close, reopen Manager just for good measure. Put the Colors file back then click or double click it so it re-registers in Manager.

If even that doesn't fix it, cut/paste the mediabay3.db file out of your user data folder for Steinberg\{DAW-NAME-HERE}. For example, the location on Windows for Cubase 12 is: %appdata%\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 12_64

It will have to do all rebuilding then, but it is an excellent way to see if some former corruption or some wild reason is keeping it from going for you straight away now. If you get it to show, consider keeping the new database. In any case, you have the "old" one ready to put back to have it exactly like it was.

If you have more than one Steinberg DAW, check how it is in another one, for good measure and to know if your system is ok with it, or entirely completely not ok with it.

If more troubleshooting is necessary, then whatever details you think can help... tell. Good luck.

I’m using Logic Pro x on a Mac and I’ve tried all those steps you suggested but it is still not showing up in halion sonic se, or halion 6. It’s funny because I was having the same issue with the pan drum library by CI as well, but doing your steps worked for that one, but not this one.

Any other suggestions?

In Halion 6, make sure you click the MACRO button TO VIEW THE ACTUAL GUI.

Does anyone know how to get this library to work with the legit version of HALion? I have legit HALion but haven't been able to get this library to load.
