Operator One is the 8th soundset in our series of soundsets for Omnisphere 2 where we take an iconic synthesizer, record the most important aspects of it, and recreate its characteristics in Omnisphere.

For this soundset we took a look at another synthesizer from Sweden, and this is the one most people connect with beards, tattoos and striped flannel shirts. The OP1 from Teenage Engineering is probably regarded as the hipster synth number one, and it’s a synthesizer that has a devoted following. Apart from it’s cool design, it’s a very quirky synthesizer with lots of character.

Classic and Custom Oberheim Synth Sounds
The OB-SX is an all-analog, six voice poly synth from the early 80s, whose sound lies somewhere between the more well known OBX and OBXa. A transitionary model between the two synths, the SX captures the funk of the OBXa and the grain and aggression of the OBX, while somehow sounding a bit different than both. For this reason, it seemed the perfect synth to sample for the OB From Mars.

Ethereal Electronics contains exceptionally beautiful pads, lush atmospheres, and serene soundscapes that sound truly unique thanks to Omnisphere's powerful blend of synthesis methods, granular/wavetable/va/fm/rm. These properties combined with the ability to import unique multi-sample wav content enables Omnisphere to be capable of some amazingly beautiful sounds. In addition, many of the patches utilize the hybrid blending of samples to the full extent, adding a tasteful organic layer or textures complimenting its live synthesis. A lot of love and appreciation also went into crafting these additional wave samples, blending as many as 5 layers of ambiences into one source. The goal was to subtlely aid the beauty and power of omnisphere's beautiful unique sound, without ever masking it.
