1950s Vari-Mu could still be, RCA, Collins, Federal, Altec and even Telefunken I guess.

I think it can't be Gates STA-Level because that compressor has unique release options, dual, triple stage etc. If they really emulate that, they would've made the option available and it's an important one to include. The other Gates SA39 first released in 60s.

Another Gates 6144, is 60s as well I guess, that one is more likely because it's a Dual Vari Mu and the Black Rooster version has that Dual toggle. hmm

It is not related to the CL1b whatsoever.The twist therefore is in the compressor design itself. From our perspective, we have created something special We are always looking to come up with some exotic revisions of circuitry TO NOT create the 1:1 copy of any other plug-in on the market. First of all, because competition will only cannibalise the market share. And second: We find it cool to provide "options" for you, when choosing the right tool for the mix.
