REQ: TONSTURM Screaming Metal

For Screaming Metal we collected all kinds of big and small metal probs: Big ventilation shafts, blocks of solid steal and small to large metal tubes. During various recording sessions in different environments we tortured all these metal probs with loads of dry ice. If metal comes into contact with dry ice it begins to oscillate and weird droning and squealing metal tones and noises arise. We tested all kinds of metal probs and realized that the coolest sounds come from objects that are quiet big and have a resonant body. Another device we recorded is the singing saw. This instrument can produce some very nice wobbely metal screams. We used different microphone setups to capture the complex resonating sounds of this library. At times we recorded with two Sennheiser MKH8020 Omnis, Sennheiser MKH8040 + MKH30 MS Combo plus our beloved tranceducer pickups from Tranceaudio. It also becomes more and more important for us to do our recording sessions in different locations to expand the variation in sound. We recorded in two different studios, in the field and in a nice reverberant stone walled stairway.
