Ambient Vocal Loop Pack
CREATION STORY
One day, I woke up with a melody in my head. I usually forget about it once I’m fully alert however, in this case, it remained very clear, continuous and it was dope. So I jumped out of bed to record this melody before I forgot it and of course I didn’t find my phone, why? because I dropped it off the day before to repair my screen. If matters couldn’t be worse, I sold my microphone a while back to my friend who raps! I was running out of options nonetheless, I continued to sing the melody, so I would not forget it until I found a way to record it. Luckily I didn’t have to ask my crazy neighbor, who is an old man with a specific life vision, to give me something to record this melody in my head because I would have probably sung in his face while asking for a phone????
It finally dawned on me that I had a measurement microphone in my basement covered with a long-term layer of dust (a measurement microphone is used to gauge acoustics in a room). I was able to locate it and quickly hook it up to my computer and recorded the melody in Ableton 10. I admit, I am not much of a singer and the recording sounded terrible, but one thing is for certain, I know how to shout at the top of my lungs.
I initially thought recording vocals with this dated equipment was going to be a problem because of the self-noise and dust inside the microphone membrane nevertheless, it was what added such a little unique distortion to my “amazing voice”. I’m glad I saved the project.
I was super busy the next several weeks because I was moving from one place to another. Then one day after I was settled in, I came across the project, in which I saved my vocals. I was feeling inspired and determined to make my vocals sound good and interesting, it was going to take lots of work however; I was up for the challenge. It took me about two days to find the right plugins but once I was able to put together the right combination, it started sounding pretty dope, so I dropped it on a beat and shared it on social media. The feedback was tremendous and I began receiving several comments and DM’s complimenting the VOX. Furthermore, many were interested in what VST Instrument I used to create the sound, it was nice to hear that my Vox sounds like a VST Instrument, at this point I realized, time to make a pack!
The best creations often come by accident and in this case, poor equipment and a right combination of plugins coupled with a great imagination turned into something pretty spectacular! Experimentation is the key to innovation, sometimes we must work outside the lines to develop a uniqueness to our sound. I encourage all music producers to find their own sound, own their style and/or even create their own genre!
Stay true and live with the light to your aim.
