Spitfire Audio joins forces with the biggest name in film scoring to produce the ultimate drum sample library for cinematic percussion. Featuring the ensembles and solo instruments used by Hans Zimmer in his blockbuster scores, we’ve drawn upon his years of creativity and studio experimentation to compile all you’ll need to get started in epic drum composition. From tombeks to taikos, playing from whisper quiet to thunderously loud, we’ve worked alongside his GRAMMY Award-winning team (including engineer Geoff Foster) to capture the highest quality recordings in the same studio with the same players, all mixed and produced by the man himself.

All three original libraries are already in the wild. The only thing this has is a new UI which you can (probably?) live without and some additional mic positions which you can (probably?) live without. Actually, this is just HZ01 and HZ03, so you'll still need HZ02 if you want that.

Honestly, HZ01 (the 'main' library) is already kind of bloated. I had to delete a lot of samples and bits to trim it down.

Yeah, after posting this request here I've found those old versions, but 80 GB for percussion is too much for my simple needs, I think I'll stick with the Native Instruments one for now. Thanks for your reply bro

Well, I think these are worth it because they are unique and actually modeled from what HZ actually uses. Spitfire often makes overexpensive superfluous libraries, but these are one of those rare ones that I still use. You can always trim the the samples in HZ01 to make it smaller which is what I did. I just have the "Stereo Mix" samples and it brought the whole library down to 16.6 gigs as opposed to nearly 70.

You can also try Spitfire Albion One which has some pretty awesome and LOUD epic percussion in there or Orchestral Tools Metropolis One which is meant for epic music. Both of which are fantastic :).

Cheers!

Amazing tip bro, I'll look for that... Btw, can you tell how good is HZ01 Stereo mixes compared to the percs on Albion One? Are they too different in terms of sound definition? I've watched both walkthroughs but it's always nice to know what a real user think about

They are both great and compliment each other very well. Spitfire's Albion One perc is LOUD and really huge and probably what most think of when they think of 'epic'. Huge toms, super huge drums, and even metallic sounds like anvils. If you remember or re-watch the The Jungle Book (2016) trailer, it's very similar to what's available on Albion (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqmUoteadZI&t=132s)

HZ01 is epic in a very different way. It's got timpanis, taikos and unusual things like bucket hits. It's what Hans likes to use in movies. If you've watched The Dark Knight, Inception or the other movies he's composed for, you've heard them before. It's not quite as loud as other offerings, but it's cool if you're a big fan of his work. The first few minutes of "Aggressive Expansion" from The Dark Knight soundtrack should remind you what it sounds like (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjDNn8qsCPI).

Cheers!

Really helpful man, your review was really on point and I could understand very well what you're talking about with the examples you've mentioned. I think I'll start with Albion One percussion cause I love huge loud drums, haha
Thank you so much for your time and patience, you've helped me a lot.

I don't think I use any other Perc samples other than HZ01, 02, and 03. Hans is crazy. But lovely
