Jimmy Wyble's Classical/Country by Jimmie Wyble & Bob Grebb screenshot
ENG | PDF | 27.3 MB
Thomas Alva Edison never met Jimmy Wyble and that's too bad because they have a lot in common. Edison spent his life in the pursuit of knowledge and in the practical application of that knowledge. It's a long, arduous process we refer to as invention and in the case of Edison, we're reminded of it every time we turn on a light or playa record. Of the process of invention, old Tom himself once said that it was 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. So when we praise the man for his acheivements we're really honoring not just his ideas, but the hard work it took to get those ideas and the even harder work it took to develop them. In today's terminology we'd have to say that Tom had paid his dues.

British Literature and Classical Music Cultural Contexts 1870-1945 screenshot
2015 | English | 272 pages | EPUB | 1 MB
British Literature and Classical Music explores literary representations of classical music in early 20th century British writing. Covering authors ranging from T.S. Eliot and Virginia Woolf to Aldous Huxley, H.G. Wells and D.H. Lawrence, the book examines literature produced during a period of widely proliferating philosophical, educational, and performance-oriented musical activities in both public and private settings. David Deutsch demonstrates how this proliferation caused classical music to become an increasingly vital element of British culture and a vehicle for exploring contentious issues such as social mobility, sexual freedoms, and international political rivalries.

Creative Scale Dimentions by Tim May screenshot
ENG | PDF | 26.3 MB
There's an old saying in music to the effect that nothing is ever new. Everything has been done before, in one form or another, by some past musical great. And yet every year, good, new sounds seem to appear in a never ending variety, from many different sources and in all fields of music from classical to rock. Creative Scale Dimensions is an invaluable tool to maintaining a simple, orderly mental approach no matter what kind of music its applied to. Its kept me straight-ahead in many complex playing situations and I know with practical application, it can do the same for you.

Becoming a Music Teacher: From Student to Practitioner screenshot
2016| English | 452 pages | PDF | 7 MB
New music teachers often struggle to find a way to connect the content learned in college classes with the content that will be taught in the classroom, since the nature of their work demands a high level of both musical and educational ability, while also the skills to switch from tuning an orchestra to leading a marching band or practicing voice parts with a chorus. Becoming a Music Teacher: Student to Practitioner focuses on making the connections between the college music classroom and public school music classroom transparent, visible, and relevant. Award-winning music educators Donald L. Hamann and Shelly Cooper have created a versatile text for music teacher education, and one that will provide a significant resource for music education students across the US.

With Passionate Voice: Re-Creative Singing in Sixteenth-Century England and Italy screenshot
2015 | ISBN: 0199382034, 0199382026 | English | 344 pages | PDF | 16 MB
Musicians in the 16th century had a vastly different understanding of the structure and performance of music than today's performers. In order to transform inexpressively notated music into passionate declamation, Renaissance singers treated scores freely, and it was expected that each would personalize the music through various modifications, which included ornamentation. Their role was one of musical re-creation rather than of simple interpretation–the score represented a blueprint, not a master plan, upon which they as performer built the music. As is now commonly recognized, this flexible approach to scores changed over the centuries; the notation on the page itself became an ostensible musical Urtext and performers began following it much more closely, their sole purpose being to reproduce what was thought to be the composer's intentions. Yet in recent years, scholars and performers are once again freeing themselves from the written page–but the tools for doing so have long been out of reach.

Light Come Shining The Transformations of Bob Dylan screenshot
English | 2017 | 232 pages | PDF | 1,5 MB
Bob Dylan is the prince of self-reinvention and deflection. Whether it's the folkies of Greenwich Village, the student movement of the 1960s and 1970s, Born Again Christians, the Chabad Lubavitch community, or English Department postmodernists, specific intellectual and sociopolitical groups have repeatedly claimed Bob Dylan as their spokesperson. But in the words of filmmaker Todd Haynes, who cast six actors to depict different facets of Dylan's life and artistic personae in his 2009 film I'm Not There, "The minute you try to grab hold of Dylan, he's no longer where he was."

Revolution in the Air The Songs of Bob Dylan - 1957-1973 screenshot
English | 2009 | 496 pages | PDF | 2,3 MB
The first of two volumes, this companion to every song that Bob Dylan ever wrote is by far the most comprehensive book on the words of America’s greatest songwriter. Here you’ll find not just opinionated commentary or literary interpretation, but facts, first and foremost. Clinton Heylin is the world’s leading Dylan biographer and expert, and he has arranged the songs–including a number that have never been performed–in a continually surprising chronology of when they were actually written rather than when they appeared on albums. Using newly discovered manuscripts, anecdotal evidence, and a seemingly limitless knowledge of every Bob Dylan live performance, he has uncovered a wealth of information about the songs, leaving no stone unturned in his research.

Swing Under the Nazis Jazz as a Metaphor for Freedom screenshot
2000| 224 pages | PDF | 11 MB
For a brief time in a Europe threatened and then occupied by Nazi Germany, jazz was heard as ubiquitously as rock ' n' roll is today. In a personal search for the story of that time, Mike Zwerin spent two years traveling across Europe talking with individuals who performed and enjoyed jazz in Hitler's dark shadow, including the Ghetto Swingers, a Jewish jazz band that "toured" Auschwitz and Theresienstadt; the Luftwaffe pilot who listened to Glenn Miller while bombing London; Django Reinhardt, the brilliant guitarist who refused to flee Nazi-controlled France; and many others.
