Welcome to the Metal Essentials - Riffs #1 lesson! When most of players hear the magic word "metal", they immedtiately think of palm muting and one direction picking (downpicking). Here's a bite of those metal essentials. Detune your 6th string to D (keep other strings in standard tuning). Touch low strings with your soft part of the right palm. Spend some time to find a sweet spot moving your palm just around 1 inch left and right across the strings. Proper palm muting should have very short sustain, a lot of percussive sound and that specific low boost, right after the hit. From the other side if You move your hand too far to the left, your sound will stay percussive, but will loose an information of what notes are being played, and will loose some of the low boost as well. You also need to find a sweet spot of palm pressure to the strings.

This track actually started off as a collaboration between myself and Jeff Loomis, but as schedules didn't allow I needed a new track to perform on EMG TV at the beginning of 2014. So that is the very first version of it. After sitting with the track a while I started to cement a lot more of how I wanted the track to sound. I booked into the studio with Scott Atkins and recorded the finished version you will hear on this downloadable version. The rest of the track was performed and mixed by Alan Sacha Laskow with the full arrangement written by me. The reason he re-performed my version was so he could do a better mix as in my current home set up I'm not recording dry DI signal. So it all came together to be solidified into this official version of the song and I hope you enjoy it.

I’ve never found a cool claps sample library and have always had to record the clapping myself. I mean real hand claps. There’s plenty of drum machine claps sample libraries around. This was my main motivation to record these 65 one shot samples. I don’t like recording claps every time.
