Its interesting how New York seemed incredibly relevant, at a certain time I guess. There was a window there where john lennon thought it was a good idea to move to New York. It retrospect it must have been that Disco/Punk Rock/Early rap era. That must have been the last high water mark of New York and music. And everything around that era, master-mixing and disco Deejays...

And then it was wierd to suddenly realize that New York really wasn't relevant anymore. Biggie Smalls was better then tupac, but he was only so popular after rap music was pretty much dead. A small pond. jay-x's entire career is an over-rated media invention. New York was never a home of Metal or Rock. It was just that one little era as far as I know. Although I'm not entirely familiar with the music scenario of the 50's back in the Doo Wop days. New York may have been significant back in the ballroom and Frank Sinatra days.

"New York was never a home of Metal or Rock."
Actually, what's strange about NYC is that there's a weird carreerist metal scene, bands such as Kayo Dot or Imperial Triumphant comes to mind. I only heard about it through interview and podcast, but basically, they're music school pussies who are into metal and they behave as such, it's similar to the modern jazz crowd, super competitive.

Thats WIERD! Almost weird enough to be interesting about New York. There is definitely a TECHNICAL, skill aspect to the greatest metal. Great power singing ability, and the legendary shredders. That could be comparable to the technical skills of jazz.

But like good jazz, there is more to it then just technical, theres a cultural soul to it. That we probably wont find a natural home in New York.

ngl, it was pretty annoying watching trust fund babies whine about getting too much attention and success for a hour and a half. "oh, woe is me, I'm half white half Korean so I don't belong anywhere! oh, photographers are taking shots of my panties under my extremely short skirt that I wear to a show, boo hoo! oh no, the media likes me, I'm gonna shoot heroin now to cope with this terrible reality! life as a successful rich musician is sooooooooooo hard!"

I love the (early) Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but they are such whiny drama queens, holy fuck.
