this vpn is neither cheap nor particularly good. here is a VPN Comparison that is regularly updated and compares most of the well-known vpn services. look for the ones that are "all green" as these offer the best security. my personal recommendation is airvpn, but you kind of have to know what you are doing because their service is not the most user-friendly. they are currently offering a 35% discount during black friday week.

actually, my comment was regarding the vpn service that saint had previously recommended. i was not referring to windscribe. and yes, it appears that windscribe is all green - which is a good thing.

Firstly thanks for posting this, and the great offer you secured, but the best available (Free) VPN is Cyberghost, as they do not store logs AND are not based in US, Canada or Europe, which are are the KEY points of a VPN.
Windscribe Servers, I believe in the US were seized by FBI a few months ago. I suspect they could also seize servers from any Windscribe location in the world, although I stand to be corrected on that point.

The only downside to the Free version however is you cannot d/l Torrents. (and you get thrown off every 3 hours, but that's no real problem here)

NordVPN is the one I would choose to go with as a paid for solution.

Sorry if I'm out of line for offering this info, but I do think it's important to know as much as possible, before making a decision with regards to security.

Cyberghost is a Romanian company, which is in the EU. Being in a "5 eyes country" is not as bad as people think. Would you rather the company be based in Saudi Arabia, which is not a 5 eyes country? How about Russia, where your servers can be seized and directors arrested with no warrant or due process?

Our servers were NEVER seized by FBI, or anyone else for that matter. Please check your facts.

You can definitely use torrents as a free user, as we don't restrict p2p activity for anyone.

OpenVPN configs are only available for Pro users at this time. Since the free versions are limited in bandwidth, when you use our custom applications, it shows you how much data you have remaining. If you don't use our apps, you have no way to tell, until your VPN suddenly disconnects (without warning) and its logical for the user to think its a problem with the service, when you simply ran out of free data. We choose to avoid this scenario.

I apologise profusely., it was Perfect Privacy VPN, by Dutch Police that had two servers confiscated.
When I read the details about this story, It was a few days after the Snooper's Charter came into force (Later deemed illegal by EU) And I had for some reason Windscribe in my head.

actually, the ideal solution is to rent your own server and set up a VPN on it. there are many hosters these days offering this feature.

good point about the server seizure, although i didn't heard about it, i believe that experience will only make them learn how to prevent things like that from happening in the future

I bought a two year membership for NordVPN but connection rate was terrible, and speeds even worse once I did connect, so after three days or so I got fed up with it and asked for a refund as they had a 30 day money back guarantee fortunately. I then tried CyberGhost and that was so much better and faster too, so I got a year membership with them on offer, and use it on all of my devices all of the time now, Andoid, iOS and Windows 10 and it works flawlessly on all of them now that version 6 of their client has been released. The previous version, v5.5 I think, was a bit ropey though, but all good now.

Opera's (browser) got an inbuilt free VPN that works pretty well in my opinion. All you have to do is to click one button to activate it. If you want a VPN just for browsing anonymously, it's a pretty good option. Besides, Opera is a great browser.

Its not a VPN, its a proxy. They just call it a VPN. It works the same way as our browser extension.
