Audiobro Modern Scoring Strings v1.1.0 rollerball's Lite Version KONTAKT screenshot
AudioZ Exclusive | 21 June 2021 | KONTAKT | 34.4GB
This is a light version of the Audiobro Modern Scoring Strings library. The library features a 60 piece “a2″ divisi string ensemble, meaning 2 parts divisi per section. The library features 16 first violins, 14 second violins, 12 violas, 10 cellos and 8 basses, divided into two sections each. On top of that, it includes a solo violin, viola, and cello as well. The sound of the library is quite lush and smooth, and the vibrato is quite balanced even when the "Molto" button is enabled and doesn't go to the extremes unlike some other libraries. The dynamic range is quite large and allows the library to be used in various contexts. The natural ambience from the scoring stage is quite adequate and not too overbearing, which makes the library more versatile.

The strongest feature of this library is its Auto Divisi feature, which works upto two notes for each instrument group and gets rid of the stacking effect when playing multiple notes and allows for divisi writing. On top of that, the library includes a wealth of articulations for a quite comprehensive coverage of one's scoring needs. Each articulation has a variety of parameters that can be tweaked, which gives the user granular control over their composition. Of particular note is the Ostinato feature which helps in making ostinato patterns sound good quite easy. The solo instruments sound great too and work great as first chair instruments, and in some contexts can serve really well independent of the main library too. The Intuition Series patches are very playable and are great for putting down ideas quickly. Finally, the Stage feature is nice and the Mixer panel is one of the most comprehensive ones in a Kontakt library.

All in all, a fantastic library that has a really long list of features, is very versatile, and would please anyone who likes complete control of their instruments!

Following changes were made to the library:
1. The "Mix" and "Surround" mic sample groups were removed. The default Mix isn't that great, and as discovered in a few forums, seems to have a few phase issues as well. The Surround mic position doesn't add too much value, and can be easily replaced by a reverb. The included "Close" and "Stage" mic positions allow for a great deal of flexibility while preserving the sound of the hall the strings were recorded in as well. However, the Mix position remains present for the Aleatoric articulations only, as these articulations don't have any other mic positions.

2. The samples in the original release were in 24-bit 48kHz format. The samples were converted to 16-bit 48kHz and repacked into NKX containers. A null test results in a peak of -85dB, which won't be audible at all. Also, after quite some testing, no issues were found with noise floor build-up when playing lots of notes. The conversion process takes the size down to 34.4GB from the original 122GB, which is a 72% reduction!

The result of these changes is that patches now consume less memory than the original. For example, the "Cellos.nki" patch now takes up 0.96GB of RAM instead of 1.26GB in the case of the original library!

NOTE: Kontakt v6.0.2 or higher is required. This library does not work with legit full version of Kontakt and k'd Kontakt is necessary to use this library.

NOTES
1. The patches in the Splits → Full Mix folder are not functional as they include the Mix sample group only, which was removed.
2. It takes a lot of time to save the patches. So if any changes are made, it is preferred to save them as Snapshots instead.

Thanks for these!
Maybe it would be great to add at the same time, in addition to the LITE versions, also the libraries in FULL version again, if possible. Many at the moment, in fact, are no longer present. I think it would be very useful to post them again, if they are not already present obviously, together with their reduced versions.

That's something I can't do as it would be against the site rules.
If something is available elsewhere, or if it was available on AudioZ earlier but not anymore, it means that the release was taken down by the developer, so it can't be added again.

Some developers are very strict and quick to take down their releases, like Spitfire for example, so they even took down my LV as well.

I asked for rollerball's light version in the original release and now it's here, but too late for me, since I've downloaded the original sized lib...
Just kidding! Not too late at all!, coz the time is right whenever it's shared (even not sharing is ok for me).
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your work with us! Very happy

So after having the chance to test it with this lite version, it's actually the new version of LA Scoring Strings, let's say verion 3.0
What I have been concerned when Spitfire started this trend, remixing old samples and giving some fancy new title, it seems the industry is following them. Which means less new, detailed recordings, more remakes.
However, this time retouching/remixing the old LASS samples that sounded too harsh without any reverb can result something many users have desired.
They did the process a bit different from SF, in this library Audiobro changed the order of the samples a bit, in a way of round robin. What samples were used for a pair of semitones, now are used for the previous or the following neighboring pair of semitones.

Ah, speaking about RR, I can't find this option in the new library for sustain. It's strange because repeating long notes and sounding the same makes it less natural.

So, whether it's a good thing or a bad thing one can decide, they blurred the old samples, it doesn't sound harsh anymore but thus are less detailed.

Playing the legato patches on keyboard (and also in notation programs) is challenging without tweaking the velocity range as it can sound out of tempo. This is a well known issue with the most virtual instruments with realistic portamento/legato sound.

The new GUI is not much less complicated. Although they united the articulations that were separated in LASS.

MSS is a completely New and Separate Production.
(except from the Solo Viola)

LASS 3 will be an update to LASS 2.5 which will basically be a rework with the new GUI/Engine.

Hopefully they will also include a solution to the Dryness,
other than improving/simplifying the ARC system and it's stock reverbs..

But nothing is yet known besides the fact..

Interesting. I'd like to know how you came to this conclusion. Which specific samples made you convinced that these are reused samples? I'd agree that the sound is a bit less "direct" than LASS but to my ears both of these libraries don't sound like they had the same source material.

Taking into consideration the fact that Audiobro are supposed to be releasing LASS 3.0 this year, as mentioned by @Ŧยχøя above, it makes what you said even more interesting.

I do agree about your comment on playing legato lines, and that modern libraries sacrifice a bit of real-time playability for more realistic results. However, it's nowhere near as hard to play as CSS for example.

I came to that conclusion with my ears. If you listen carefully the attacks and the small vibrato in the sustain notes that differ in each sample, you will find the two libraries more than familiar. But this time it's tricky because LASS used round robin, so you can't just compare the notes on the two libraries playing once. I mean, in the new library, as I mentioned above, I didn't find the option of RR for legato/sustain. And for some reason the samples on the new are not on the same note (pair of semitones) in LASS but a neighboring note.

I'm sorry if others can't recognize things the way I can, as it happened with SF Strings libraries.

One important detail: Audiobro did not lie when promoting this library, they didn't pretend it was newly recorded, just simple omitting the obvious. And I don't blame them, they have been fair with their early clients offering the updated versions of LASS for free (if I recon correctly).
There has been a lot of work in this library because of the new script, the refined and remixed samples.

What is going to be the LASS 3.0 is interesting. Either they put the new script together with the original samples, adding new reverb options or I don't know.
What I think is that they still want to refresh it mostly for their existing clients having the chance to use the new patches seamlessly over the old ones in their existing projects.

Edit:
I went to check first the Basses samples that have quite a recognizable movement on lower registers.
I just did a brief comparison and could only check the Sordino Legato 2.0 patches as the others aren't with me now. Otherwise I would have started with pizzicato.
Speaking of pizzicato, this MSS library has a really fat nice sound.
Exactly what LASS differed from SF Strings was that fat (or wet) sound in SF. Now you can't complain anymore and Audiobro is superior in many aspects, starting with the unique divisi option.

I just realized when you load a patch it loads the samples for the main articulations only (which is good) but when you choose e.g. Aleatoric it will add it to the already loaded samples. I couldn't find the way to load only a specific articulation. I don't understand why you need to load legato samples when you just want to use harmonics...

I don't know bro,
I don't believe it..

In this article, Sound on Sound magazine says:
"Modern Scoring Strings (MSS) features a 60‑piece string orchestra....
all recorded from multiple mic positions in a Large Scoring Stage."

"MSS was recorded from close, stage and surround microphone positions,
each with its own dedicated mixer channel.
In addition, there’s a full mix of the Stage and Surround mics"

And it actually shows a Picture of the recording Hall:
https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/audiobro-modern-scoring-strings

Plus, MSS includes Stage and Surround microphones,
how do you think they made them?

Do you think they took LASS samples,
and recorded a Simulated/virtual digital reverb?

Or maybe they played them in a impossibly-perfect PA system,
inside of an actual Hall, and recorded them back,
thus emulating the Natural reverb and capturing it for our convenience..

And Nobody but You realized! :D

And why dosen't the Close mic position sound exactly the same in both libraries?
If they reused LASS samples, they should be the same no?

No bro,
MSS is MSS.

LASS is LASS,
and they are very very different libraries.

In fact LASS still has some the most beautifully Detailed Articulations that Exist,
and while MSS is F'ing Great, It doesn't have the same type of timbrical Detail...

But by all means,
If you say that's the case, can you Prove this to us in any way?

Can you show us en example of a Repeated sample?

And how did they add the Natural Stage/Surround reverb to the original sample/s?

Thx that you care for us, m8!

Rollerball is epic for those with less hdd capacity, who
just want the sound, but not the "bloat" of some of the
huuuuge and bigger libs!

excuse the dumb question, but how do i get this to work?
do i need the full version first and then just replace the old folders with these new ones?

You don't need the full version! Just download this release, add it to Kontakt, and use it like any other library.

Thanks for the library.
I'm trying to add the library using kontakt 5.6.0 but it's not working.

It's not showing on my Kontakt 6.2.2

I tried adding it to quick-load and got this message:
This instrument belongs to a library that is currently not installed

Any help?
Thank you

After some research I just found this: Kitty Script saved me! Thanks. :)
