here's the news:
Rapidshare announced today that it will switch its current business model to a new system starting November 27, 2012.
The new system moves the file host closer to a classic hosting system, where file owners pay for storage space and traffic created by file downloads.

News that Rapidshare was about to change its business model came to light at the end of October 2012 when existing download limits were lifted by the hosting company. The announcement in October vaguely referred to an upcoming change that would change the company’s business model to make it an effective instrument against online piracy and a shield against future disagreements with content creators.

Rapidshare notes in the announcement that the pricing won’t change, and that paying users of the service get unlimited traffic for their own files and downloads of their contacts. In addition, they get 30 Gigabyte of public traffic per day which other users of Rapidshare can make use of to download files hosted by a RapidPro user. Files uploaded by free Rapidshare account owners are limited to 1 Gigabyte of traffic per day, again with the exception that traffic by the user or contacts of the user does not fall under that limit.

It'll still be used for piracy, but it takes away the profit motive of some of the people here.

In the US, the six strikes plan begins on November 28th. Rapidshare new system (which under pressure from the Hollywood cabal it has been implemented to combat online piracy) begins on November 27th.

Whether you do file sharing or private torrents, it doesn't matter, you'll never be safe until you move to VPN. wink US users still have a couple weeks to get their act together.

Q

So we have to pay for uncensored internet?

That's Democracy !

It would not surprising me if this VPN shizzzle is coming from the Elite itself.

I would totaly pay for a VPN
I think it's our way to support those who fight for our liberty....!

It's not their fault if internet is like this, but I think some of the elite try to ride on it wink

And not all VPN are good some give your log to anyone (police/others) asking for it. Choose VPN who are not in the usa and who do not keep logs

clovernine9,

But we don't know if this VPN thing is running by Governments itself, In this Time it's difficult to trust.

And if they fight for our liberty, they would do it without making money of it.

On February 24, 2012 Rapidshare announced that due to a surge in illegal traffic in response to the Megaupload seizure, it had limited all free accounts to a total of 30 kbit/s maximum download speed. As of August 2012 this restriction has been lifted for an unspecified amount of time. Previously in order to lift the download cap it suggested users purchase a RapidPro account. Since October 2012, free users can download like premium users (no speed limit).

Same thing will apply to vpn providers. After all they still route
traffic though a ipv4. And if a provider goes rogue... they will be
taken out as well.

Hi EHCanadian!

By looking at your name, I think that I belong to your club.

As far as your comment: "they will be taken as well," it might certainly happen in the future since we're heading into a totalitarian internet fascism. When will it happen? - we don't know. But for the time being VPN still safe and that's the way to go. Cheers! wink

well i think some one will find a way around the US, the six strikes plan i talk to AT&T and they said all the internet providers in the US are going to enforce it i'v been watching a lot of Technology tv shows here in the US and they are saying that it mite not last to long because there will be a lot of false positives people will be getting penalized falsely and start complaining and the Man power that it is going to take determine who is a legitimate violator and who is not i think will start costing the internet providers a lot of Money will see AT&T told me that the punishment will be that (( your internet will be cut off for one month and you have to take a class on how to use the internet responsibly )) rofl to many people are not going have this SH.t i think here in the US we will start picketing and revolt wink i'm putting pressure on my internet provider already i told them that i will cancel my internet with them angry will see you will probably see a lot of people not on here any more and it mite effect the (K) Team's i hope not this is Curious

megupload is not coming back its called megabox which is a music online store llike Beauport or juno where you dl free music by installing a software called megakey or pay for the tracks and it will never be a cloud storage system again.

im happy with uploaded.net and i get a speed of 500 t 600 kbps so im happy i took my businesss to them 2 years ago when rapidshare, megaupload and filesonic became shit.

at the end of the day its about MONEY......

indeed rofl

plenty of options for FS sites [vpn/bounce/proxy] + usenet [astra/newshosting/giga] read port:80 ssl encrypted for transfer port:443 works great for me. not to mention setting up an NZB index for what isnt already posted to usenet from ppl with scene access or bouncing the rls's from sites like this would only take minimal effort. Im sure an audio centric NZB index would do real well and still have free dl(isp usnet access) and subbed dl(prem usenet host)

At best the VPN solution will only work temporarily. The U.S. and the corporations that own it will start going after VPN's just like they went after mega, rs, filesonic, and all the rest. Only a matter of time. The real problem is that we keep playing a game of attempting to run away from these powers rather than face up to them head on. The file sharing communities need to figure on a methodology for fighting back, not for hiding under a rock. We're running out of rocks! It's either fight back or call it a day. Maybe Dotcom will be a leader in that effort; maybe someone who's name we don't even know yet.

As for RS's press release from yesterday/today, I think they're just attempting to see if they can find a means of staying afloat. Whatever changes they made after the authorities grabbed Megaupload didn't work out for their business. Now they're trying this new approach. I would guess in a few months it will be something else altogether since the only business model that really worked for them was what they started out with in the first place. Seems like this is just a slow death march for them until they announce that they're folding. Let's face it, the U.S. corporations are crawling up the ass of all of these cyberlockers, and they're not going to go away until filesharers come up with a radically different solution to protect themselves.

One other thing -- I agree with Lyric8. The 6 strikes thing is a bunch of crap. As soon as the law suits start flying they'll have that nonsense on hold for a few years. They ISP's just don't have the legal basis to do what they say they'll be doing, it's nonsense. The ISP's just want to be able to say they made a "best effort" when copyright holders sue them for their part in filesharing.

The companies shoot themselves in their own knee. You will now see that they will loose more profit. Keeping the filesharing legal makes the people try and then buy. The people with no money to buy will now not be able to to try and buy and so they will not be able to make mouthpropaganda to recommend any apps/programms etc. People with no mone will anyway not be able to buy. So the companies will not generate any PLUS of profit. Believe me.

RapidShare was always more or less bullshit since they are changing their policies more than I change my underwear ffs. :) I too think VPN is the way to go, but definitely choosing the servers in the "safe zone"... outside the US, possibly South America or Africa would be a good way to go. It really doesn't matter where for as long as the servers are safe, ey? ;)

Maybe someone clever enough and with some more resources could setup a server at Antarctica or a boat... like in the old days of radio piracy. :) Boats are eligible to international laws. Just an idea... I've probably gone too far for this thread. LOL Pass on...
