Kiive Audio Tape Face v1.0.1-TeamCubeadooby screenshot
TeamCubeadooby | 24 March 2023 | 82 MB
Tape Face is an analog emulation of a classic german tape machine with a few added features to give you versatility in every mix.

Tape Face if perfect for adding warm analog character to your master or sub group busses. Use our custom bias algorithm to add unique low mids and saturation to drums and bass.

Or throw it down on every track to emulate recording through a physical tape recorder using our very CPU friendly oversampling.

INPUT / OUTPUT
The In / Out section of Tape Face allows you to add subtle tape saturation to your tracks if left at unity gain (0) or drive your sounds into more aggressive distortion by cranking the input knob. This section also includes a link button to automatically attenuate your output volume when pressed in.

METER / IPS
The Meter / IPS section of Tape Face allows you to change the VU meter style from in signal, gain reduction and the out signal. The IPS switch allows you to toggle between 7.5 ips and 15 ips.

TAPE BIAS / LOW BOOST
The Bias / Low Boost section of Tape Face allows you to adjust the tape bias from normal to +3. The low boost button engages a low frequency EQ curve to make up for some lost low end while pushing the input. The noise knob lets you adjust the noise and hum volume found in analog tape machines.

1. is this the PA version or non PA version ?
It's PA version.

2. an analog emulation of a "classic Irish tape machine". Anyone knows what brand and model ?
It's Scully 280B which is a US brand and manufactured in the US.....

thanks.

Is there a difference besides protection? Genuinely curious

don't know for sure, but there were differences for the Xtressor, which I didnt really remember what exactly but few members here mentioned it on the Xtressor post. Could be the case with this one. Doesn't really matter to me, it's just if it's the PA version I'd like to wait for R2R release. If it's the non PA, I want to try it right away,

John Scully was an Irishman having immigrated to the US. But yea. He worked for Columbia Records in the early 20th century, then founded Scully Recording Instruments in Bridgeport, Ct. Funny how so many ads call it an "Irish Classic." Chalk it up to marketing.

Nice one, working (WiN7, Reaper)

Sadly, A/B doesn't save Tape Type and Input, which is a bit annoying.

8x and 16x OS null, even with Input overload and full Saturation.

Interestingly, the sensitivity of the switches Meter and IPS are differently.

Compression isn't too heavy, overall sound isn't bad but a matter of taste, as always.

Actual version is 1.1.0 which is currently not available through PA installation manager. It can be downloaded from the product page and has some fixes.

Thanks to TCD and I suppose 1.1.0 will be added shortly after

Tip!

Click tape reels to stop & reduce GPU usage. If scrolling & meters are sluggish, this is the cure.

seems to be a good tools for adding tonal character.

I sort of liked his Distressor plugin, but I have so much trouble getting over the fact the kid who makes the Kiive plugins only started learning plugin coding during the pandemic. Not saying that means he can't produce good plugins, but mastering anything takes years, and well, you don't know how much you don't know. I find it hard to believe this would work or sound any better than a tape or saturation plugin from a company like Softube or SSL, filled with master coders and rigorous testing.

I guess I have to go with the "if it sounds good, use it" approach, but I have so so many plugins I take that approach with its hard to justify.

He's only coding since the pandemic? Respect.
Yes, he seems make some cursory mistakes, but whether you like the sound of his pluggies or not is a different story and your decision. No one can use all the plugins that are released, not even 10%.

Slightly off topic, but grab Arouser from Empirical Labs and never entertain another Distressor plugin again.

To be fair he spent 12-14 hours a day learning it for a year

Also, i don't think he's intending for it to sound "better", the intention of the plugin is to provide an option for the more heavily saturated style of tape sound, rather than the subtle tape sound that most other plugs provide

Somebody already tried g-sonique Analog Tape ASX-72? :)

When the noise is turned on, a sinusoid appears in the analyzers at forty hertz. Look in PluginDoctor or Bertom Curve Analyzer.

Most likely just sample noise which you can "COPY" from any Stems from the 1980's stems.
Most people don't know is that almost every professional studio has been using Digital Multi track recorders since 1981, Not much music has actually been multi track and recorded on pure analog sound.

The Sony PCM- 3324 multi track recorder changed audio recording forever,

In saying all this if you want as real as samples from Analog Tape masters or Stems you have to get the ones from the 1970's stems not from the 1980's stems.

I would say hit the early 1981-1982 stems or anything before that, as after 1982 many pro studios started to use the SONY decks as no loss in PCM digital copies when bouncing or doing mire than 24 tracks mixes bouncings.

Basically we have been recording to digital PCM Multi track audio ( recorded on 2" reel tapes) since 1981.
