Baby Audio Smooth Operator VST VST3 AU AAX v1.0.0 MAC/WiN screenshot
MAC | WiN x86 x64 - 18 MB
Meet your new mix assistant
Smooth Operator combines equalization, spectral compression and resonance suppression into a singular creative experience that’s instant and intuitive. Use it to perfect your tonal balance and add a touch of ‘HiFi’.

Our spectral detection algorithm adapts to your audio 44,100 times per second and automatically eliminates fatigued frequencies. This gives you full control to shape your signal and bring out more definition.

- Brings out clarity and smoothness across instruments, vocals and mix busses.
- Allows for creative tone shaping without artifacts or harsh resonances.
- Intelligent algorithm that automatically detects and resolves fatigued frequencies.
- An alternative to EQ, compression and resonance suppression in one unified workflow.

1- Pull the middle circle down to increase the effect level. Smooth Operator automatically attacks the most dominant/fatigued frequencies first, even with a straight curve. You may not need to do more than this.
2- Move the 4 outer nodes to shape the tonal response. Preserve frequency areas by moving the nodes up, or remove frequency content by pulling them down. Use your mousewheel or trackpad-scroll to adjust the Q.
3- FOCUS controls how surgical Smooth Operator gets. At 100%, each frequency spike is processed independently. Lower focus values will give you a broader, more balanced, response.
4- Engage SOLO to audition different parts of the frequency spectrum separately during node hover-over.
5- Engage SIDE CHAIN mode to duck your signal with the frequency balance of another track in your mix. This feature could have been a plugin in its own right(!) It allows you to create a hyper-surgical side chain effect where the exact frequency make-up of a lead track can be used for ducking a secondary track.

What is spectral processing?
The easiest way to understand Spectral Processing is to think of it as manipulating the building blocks that make up a digital signal – rather than the actual signal. Our algorithm uses Fast Fourier Transform - or FFT - to break the incoming audio into tiny particles, which are analyzed and processed separately, before being put back together again. This all happens in realtime and allows for a much more surgical approach to resonance detection and rebalancing than what would be possible with traditional audio effects.

While most spectral tools focus on audio restoration, we wanted Smooth Operator to be all about creative expression. The plugin is meant for shaping your tone. Use it to compress, EQ and ‘purify’ in one simple process – and know that Smooth Operator has your back when it comes to automatically eliminating artifacts.

Smooth Operator comes loaded with 63 presets created by friends of BABY Audio - including:
- Preston Reid (Ciara, Toni Braxton, Lil Uzi Vert)
- David Nakaji (Post Malone, Aminé, Lil Eazzyy)

I think soothe can do all of wath smooth can do and more....but this sounds good maybe more easy to operate

I guess the main selling point is that it's cheaper than Soothe. Hahaha

quote by rikyjachoI mean, why not? why not use them all together? soothe, this one and dseq at the same time for more precision

Only in case you want to triple THD and completely ruin impulse and transient response.

fair enough, I miscommunicated what I was trying to say, lemme clarify. I meant to use them all together if u feel one alternative is not performing as intended, if that's the case then u can use the alternative that gives u the results u want, and so on; not that there's something wrong with using 2 of them as inserts at the same time on a channel when the source requires it, just like u would do when inserting 2 compressors one followed by the other in some cases, but I agree that the more nonlinear processors u use on a signal, u run the risk of adding more artifacts to it, that's why I follow fabien from tokio dawn records recommendation with nonlinear processors: minimalism; always use the least u can, and also, always use the ones optimized to work properly from dc to nyquist and that respects the nyquist theorem (to control for aliasing distortion).

Thanks !!!
Is this one something like Soothe ?

This is more Gullfoss/TEOTE than DSEQ/Soothe. So more broader strokes spectral balance instead of narrow "resonances" taming.
  Member 22.12.2018 423
First of all, it of very limited functionality - it controls only two bandwidths. For example, TDR Nova GE controls six, not to mention that it automatically detects them and adjusts Q factors and max. gain reduction for each bandwidth after spectrum analysis scrutiny. None of this happens here.
The left and right side 'nodes' are just slant controls.
As far as I could see 'focus' is just another name for both bandwidths simultaneous gain control.
Technically it is pretty poor, THD is very high (depending on settings, averaging -50dB, and at maximum reduction @1kHz the total distortion gets even up to 0.3%. Shows a plethora of irregular notches in oscilloscope test. The attack/release response is non-linear and heavily frequency dependent.
It can not be compared to DSEQ, Soothe or TDR Nova GE in any respect.
