Cockos REAPER v6.24 RC5 screenshot
P2P | 23 February 2021 | 38 MB
REAPER is a powerful but sensible Windows application that lets you record, arrange, edit, and render multi-track waveform audio. It provides an extensive set of features, but is a very small and lightweight application (the installer is less than 1 megabyte, and includes many effects and a sample project). REAPER supports ASIO, Kernel Streaming, WaveOut, and DirectSound for playback and recording.

It reads WAV, OGG, and MP3 files, and records WAV files. You can arrange any number of items in any number of tracks and use audio processing plug-ins (DirectX and Jesusonic). REAPER also supports volume, pan controls and envelopes per track, multi-layer undo/redo, and user creatable color themes.

Basic features:
- Portable - supports running from USB keys or other removable media
- 64 bit audio engine
- Excellent low-latency performance
- Multiprocessor capable
- Direct multi-track recording to many formats including WAV/BWF/W64, AIFF, WavPack, FLAC, OGG, and MIDI.
- Extremely flexible routing
- Fast, tool-less editing
- Supports a wide range of hardware (nearly any audio interface, outboard hardware, many control surfaces)
- Support for VST, VSTi, DX, DXi effects
- ReaPlugs: high quality 64 bit effect suite
- Tightly coded - installer is just over 2MB

Editing features:
- Tool-less mouse interface -- spend less time clicking
- Drag and drop files to instantly import them into a project
- Support for mixing any combination of file type/samplerate/bit depth on each track
- Easily split, move, and resize items
- Each item has easily manipulated fades and volume
- Tab to transient support
- Configurable and editable automatic crossfading of overlapping items
- Per-item pitch shift and time stretch
- Arbitrary item grouping
- Markers and envelopes can be moved in logical sync with editing operations
- Ripple editing - moving/deletion of items can optionally affect later items
- Multiple tempos and time signatures per project
- Ability to define and edit project via regions
- Automation envelopes

where is the sense in bringing a RC (Release Candidate) for download here??
  Resident 17.01.2012 12 699
Nope, there's no sense at all. I recommend waiting for final 6.24 release as there is still some bugs to iron out.

Cockos give access to release candidates, but clearly ask to not distribute them ...

Agree with you 100%

iIs there someone else here having problem with Reaper rescaning all plugins on every launch?
I don´t know why Reaper doesn't cache the VSTs list correctly anymore.
This issue sucks, because is taking too long to open Reaper .
More than 2 minutes here every time i open Reaper

Just a minor problem, it takes ~ 2 secs here.

Got the same problem as well, would be nice if we could find a solution, I loved Reaper mostly because of its minuscule loading time and now it's gone and it bothers me beyond my limits.

Agree with Olymoon.

Take the time to read the well documented manual.
Also try Reaperblog or Reaper Mania on youtube for update descriptions & tutorials.

Unless you are running an under resourced system, plugin scan should not take that long unless it is a first time scan, used the Clear Cache and rescan option or, deleted the reaper-vstplugins64.ini file (same as Clear Cache).

I got a very old i7 950 only 3.07ghz and 12gb of ddr3 ram.
Scanning takes 1 second.

Different thing is , if you are loading a project with a lot of plugins with complicated protection. That can take longer.
I just loaded, for test, a project list with 7 projects. Each one with several tracks and each with their own instruments and effects. Chrono: 53 sec.
