U2B means "Universal 2 Binary". Universal is the name Apple uses to indicate that a binary has 2 instruction sets. One for an old architecture and one for a new architecture. Universal Binary was the name they used when they transitioned from Power PC to X86 Intel chips. So Universal 2 is the name they use now in the transition from X86 to ARM. So a binary that is Universal 2 is called Universal 2 Binary or U2B for short.

i haven't downloaded any of the k'd fabfilter plugs since the "timebomb" (maybe 2-3 yrs ago) in fear of losing my fabfilter plugs that somehow never got timebombed. is this still something to worry ab or am i good to update? i really want to..

That got taken care of many moons ago. These plugs are/should be safe. Haven't encountered a timebomb with Fabfilter since that particular incident.

Only tried au as I don't use vsts usually

Just between this, your Arturia stuff and especially your iZotope stuff, you've been consistently killing it for a while now. Just wanted you to know you are deeply appreciated! Many thanks!

One question, though: even though it says here that it's AU, VST and VST3 only, an AAX option is included in your installers. Is a patched (or patch-bundled) AAX actually included, or is that just an accidental leftover from the original installer? I'm not installing the AAX from these, but if it's possible ...

AAX is difficult to be patched and also to work in the legit Pro Tools.

Installed on Mac Studio max / Monterey / Protools Ultimate. It says that plugins failed to load because they are not valid 64 bit AAX plugins.....any help? are not official
