For those who aren't able to activate the plugin, Do not copy "Devicemaster" folder which comes with Installation.
Just go to its sub folder "data" and copy "stepic" to AppData\Roaming\Devicemeister\Stepic\data

Big up to Morteza for the instructions to get it going. There's a weird little note in the main folder that isn't at all helpful. (The MOCHA.txt file referred to in the original post.) The more detailed and helpful instructions were in the Steptic Non-Installer folder but I didn't find them until after multiple installs.

Lovely little app but it relies on Max 4 Live so I don't think it'll work with Cubase. Edit: as Musachi points out, there are two apps, a Max4Live version and a .vst3 version. They've got slightly different names. I found it helpful to ignore the installer and go with manual drag and drop installations.

There are 2 versions in this release. One vst3 file requires Live, the other one runs in other DAWS. I've got it up and running in Live and Studio One.

StepicVST.vst3 32-bit (x86). Plugin FL Studio and Reaper are also working because they are bridges. But it doesn't work in Studio One. How did you run it in Studio One?

Oh, I stand corrected. Thanks. I thought I'd installed the regular VST3 in Ableton, but it wouldn't run without starting Max first. I'd obviously installed the other one. Are there any advantages to the Max version then? Why wouldn't I just run the other VST3 version in Ableton?

OK, loads of advantages. The Max4Live version does loads of stuff that the regular VST3 can't do in terms of automating stuff in Ableton. I'm not in the habit of buying software, but if I was, this would absolutely be worth my money.

"Stepic_Win_x64.zip" for Ableton.

"=(Stepic)=.amxd" file (usually located at \Users\[username]\Documents\Ableton\User Library\Presets\MIDI Effects\Max MIDI Effect) for Windows 10.
Copy "Stepic.vst3" to \program files\Common Files\VST3

"StepicVST_Win_x64" and "StepicVST_Win_32Bit" for other DAWs. It has nothing to do with Ableton. 32bit or x64 "StepicVST.vst3" file, copy it next to "stepic.vst3" file. Beware of 32bit or x64 files.

Wow, I'm impressed. Thank you.. I've been pretty interested in this one since hearing about it (and created my first and only request for this too). Well done! Can't wait to try it.

Edit: just a recommendation (not sure if it's necessary), but turn off Automatically check for updates in the plugin once installed.

Those of you with decent or better graphics solutions (let's say openGL 3.x or better) should enable openGL in its settings. I did, and seems ok.

was the binary patched? I have got this working on mac also via the same install method, block it phoning home via little snitch etc. but it might have a time bomb

location on mac for the stepic.db is:

Copied StepicVST.vst3 from StepicVST_Win_x64 to common files/VST3

Also copied stepic.db to appdata/roaming/devicemeister/StepicVST/

Anyone else having issues with this?

Done as the .txt explains but can't get it to work. Also tried what is suggested in previous comments with same results.

When I open the VST3 in Live, it says Unsupported Plugin and says it needs the Max4Live device running to open. When running Max4Live device, it asks for activation?!

Maybe using the wrong VST3 file? There are two different x64 files. Just guessing - I didn't try Live version yet.

I've had all of these problems. They're all answered by reading this thread though. I'd suggest uninstalling everything and doing a manual install where you drag and drop the files to the folders where they're supposed to be. I've now got both the Max4Live and the regular VST working in Ableton but I had to do everything manually to make it all work.

Hi, all. The 8 lane modulation of Stepic is awesome in Cubase. Question: In order to modulate parameters in your VSTi, you need to know the knob or slider's CC #? Is there a way to find this info out if you don't have the instrument's manual? Thanks.
