Bedroom Producers Blog has launched Cassette 808, a collection of tape processed Roland TR-808 drum machine samples, based on source material from Gregor Zemljic.
Cassette 808 includes three kits with ready to use NKI patches for Native Instruments Kontakt 5, and a selection of fully chopped up one shot samples from Gregor’s original 808 recordings.
Well, these samples have definitely spent enough time collection dust on our solid state drive (yup… times are changing) and we figured this is the right moment to share them with the world. Cassette 808 is based on an amazing set of Roland TR-808 samples that was recorded by Gregor Zemljic of Earrisistible Mastering way back in 2010.

The samples were recorded in Gregor’s mastering studio using the following recording chain: Radial JDI – Neve 1073 DPA – Crane song Ibis M (very slight low end/hi end boost + HPF @ 20Hz) – Crane song STC 8 (very light compression to add a bit of punch) – Crane song HEDD AD @ 24/44.1kHz.

Three legato modes were sampled - slurred, bowed and portamento. These are easily switchable during use via keyswitches, and one exceptionally useful feature, which we are shocked to say we rarely see in string libraries, is the ability to change bow on the same note. Simply hold the note you want to change bow on, and press the low G keyswitch

Zilhouette Strings is the collection of all our strings we recorded so far! It includes 7 violins, 2 viola, 7 cellos and 2 basses in total. The musicians we recorded are german-known session and live orchestra musicians. All content was recorded in several recording sessions in our own recording rooms in a close and intimate distance to the instrument in a solo as well as in a trio situation. We have used condenser mics such as Neumann U-87 and TLM 103, Schoeps MK4 as well as dynamic mics such as Sennheiser MD421, AKG D112 among others.

This is the individual solo violin instrument from our "LSS Solo Strings" sample library bundle, which also replaces our previous solo violin, and is not even comparable in quality.

We have sampled the instrument in a large beautiful London concert hall, with many microphones, making up four main, mixable mic perspectives, close mono, close pair, mid room and far room. The difference in perspectives is huge, meaning you can create sounds ranging from a very dry and up close sound, to a singing, naturally reverberated distant violin - as well as any degree between the two.

The Xiao is a ancient traditional Chinese, end-blown bamboo flute, also known as the dòngxiao. We have sampled this instrument with true legato intervals all the way up to the octave, and, like the bansuri, have artificially filled in the notes which actually are not possible to play on the instrument physically. With our instrument, you can play it in any key, as you would any other VST instrument on the keyboard, without worrying about which notes are possible etc.
