[dead] Jazz - the Basics (by Christopher Meeder) screenshot
PDF (Good Scan) | 270 pages | 1,5mb

The Basics gives a brief introduction to the history and repertoire of jazz. It is ideal for students and interested listeners who want to learn more about this important musical style. The heart of the book traces jazz’s growth from its folk origins through early recordings and New Orleans stars, the big-band and swing era, bebop, cool jazz and third stream, avant-garde, jazz-rock, the neo-conservative movement of the 1980s, and the polystylism of the 1990s.

Kosheen are a British trip hop, drum and bass and rock group based in Bristol, England. The trio consists of producers Markee Substance (b. Mark Morrison 1974, Springburn, Glasgow) and Darren Decoder (b. Darren Beale 1974, Bristol), with singer and song writer Sian Evans. The name of the band is a combination of the Japanese words for "old" (古, romanized transliteration ko) and "new" (新, shin).

When one listens to music at home, one would like to have an acoustic impression close to that of being in the concert hall. Until recently this meant elaborate multi-channelled sound systems with 5 or more speakers. But head-related stereophony achieves the surround-sound effect in living room with only two loudspeakers. By virtue of their slight directivity as well as an electronic filter the limitations previously common to two-speaker systems can be overcome and this holds for any arbitrary two-channel recording.

David Temperley Music and Probability PDF screenshot
PDF | 2.56 MB
In Music and Probability, David Temperley explores issues in music perception and cognition from a probabilistic perspective. The application of probabilistic ideas to music has been pursued only sporadically over the past four decades, but the time is ripe, Temperley argues, for a reconsideration of how probabilities shape music perception and even music itself.
