While not copying originals, some of the features were taken to a better point. Continuous blendable multimode filter (HP-Notch(BP)-HP in 12 dB mode and 4-1 pole in 24 dB mode). 32 and 64 bit versions included.

OB-Xd is based on the Oberheim OB-X. It attempts to recreate its sound and behavior, but as the original was very limited in some important ways a number of things were added or altered to the original design.

The OB-Xd was designed to sound as good and as rich as the original. It implements micro random detuning which is a big part of that sound. However, it was not designed as a self-contained completely independent soft-synth. It needs to be contained within a VST framework where things like transposition, automation, layering, arpeggiation, etc., are available.

Also, like many synths of the OB-X's generation, the OB-Xd has no internal effects so its sounds and textures can be greatly enhanced by the use of additional processing like chorus, reverb, delay, etc.

Good synth, but for god sake dont use the install, proceed to manual setup.
The installer will mess up your plugin folder (Ableton OSX)

i havnt installed it here. hope its better for windows, but there you need to use the setup, because you cant unpack.

i updated a few days ago. no problem on windows (w7_x64). works perfect under both native and bridged mode. there's no windows installer at all. usually "setup" would create a library folder by default. so, you've to create this folder manually. just do the following:

+ unpack package
+ copy vst files (x86x64) to its respective location
+ Obxd.dll->VST32 / Obxd64.dll -VST64
+ open in explorer: %userprofile%\documents
+ if not existing, create a new folder "discoDSP"
+ open that folder
+ again create a new folder "OB-Xd"
+ open that folder
+ create a new folder "Banks"
+ create a new folder "Skins"
+ add your banks/presets to "Banks" folder
+ add your skins to "Skins" folder
+ run plugin
+ right click somewhere on GUI
+ select bank / skin (no longer greyed out)

valid for windows only.
mac users should read recycle's and Omman's comments below.

What happened to your plugin folder?

I assume your referring to the VST folder, since AUs can't be sorted like VSTs in terms directory structure.

The installer of this plugin (osx vers) install the .vst in the
/Users/[Your Username]/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/
(hidden folder)

not in normal vst folder:
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/

this cause ableton to split list of plugins in 2 different folders: local and user.

My advice is to manually copy .vst file in
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST

and banks/skins folder in
/Library/Audio/Preset

love obxd! on some of these projects, the story of how they came to be is as fun as the synth itself. i'll see if I can find that old collection of preset, over at (you know where). if I remember, they were just scattered through the forum

Now have a bank & skin browser (by right-click on GUI). Working fine on REAPER 5.311 (x64) / Windows 7 Pro SP1 (x64).

With the AU plugin version, the presets are not listed by their names but all have the same "default" name, so banks not very useful. The VST version list them all by names, much better.

where did you out the banks? i cannot right click on the vst version, only on au

For it to work for AU and VST create in the folder " documents " of your Hard Drive a folder called " discoDSP " and place the OB-Xd folder containing the banks and skins in that folder and all will work. It does for me..

Since now it is own by discoDSP, they have change where the folders must reside...

Has anyone else noticed that since DiscoDSP took over, the CPU performance of this great synth has gotten pretty worse when compared to the previous 2Dat version? I've been getting CPU spikes after playing for some time (Windows 7, 86x, 32 bit version of the vst). I made a comparison and this doesn't happen to the previous one (2Dat version). And I tried different DAWS also.

And thanks for letting us know about this update Articstorm! And thanks to the developers (hope they fix this CPU issue!)

ob-xd has no build-in preset selector. once you've load a bank it depends on your daw how to select a preset.
